Welcome to Cedar Park Parent Teacher Club (PTC)
Welcome to our new Rachel Carson students and families! All current parents and guardians of CPMS students are automatically members of the PTC.
Our events, programs, school support, and enthusiasm make up this vibrant volunteer community and are indeed, POWERED BY YOU.
Two to Takeaway
1. Let’s show the teachers some love! We are looking for parents who would like to contribute ideas and some time to put together some treats and tokens of appreciation for our hard-working and committed school staff. Please contact a teacher appreciation committee member to get connected. There are even opportunities to help outside of the school day for parents who work during school hours! (Shana Price shanajprice@gmail.com, Val Estep valestep97@gmail.com, Sonya Rygh, sonya.rygh@cru.org, or rlc.coordinator@gmail.com)
2. Parent Survey Data - Thanks to the almost 100 contributors to the parent survey we sent out! Check out our January meeting minutes to see the data and read the short blurb below with a summary of the comments that were shared.
Recap - January PTC Meeting
Our first meeting of the year had a great turnout. We got an update from Dr. Anderson regarding staffing, lockers, important February dates, and yearbook sales.
Our Student Resource Officer, Officer Pamfilie, presented an informative talk about online safety that was quite eye-opening!
We also reviewed the data from the parent survey we sent out in December/January. You can see the pie charts and bar graphs on page 4 of the meeting minutes document. The most prevalent themes that came from the comments included: concerns with the new CPMS schedule (e.g. students feeling rushed through content, too many passing periods, stressful, not enough time to dig into subject areas), poor behavior of students, desire for lockers (lots to carry around and so many transitions because of 8 classes/day), lunchtime (too short, cold outside, assigned seating), and COVID safety concerns during passing periods, PE and lunch. The most comments were concerning the new Cedar Park schedule. If you would like to provide feedback at the district level in order to influence changes, see the meeting minutes for contact information and the next Board meeting date.
Just Around the Corner - Our First School Play of the School Year!
Mark your calendars for the upcoming school play, James and the Giant Peach, on February 4th & 5th! The cast and crew are working hard to prepare for this first in person play since the 19-20 school year! Don't miss this family-friendly event!
