Weekly Update
from the District Office - September 20, 2022

Giving Thanks
Big thanks going out to...
- Chris Herren, former NBA player and internationally recognized speaker, who spoke to our high school students about addiction and mental health. He also spoke at Dunkirk and held a community conversation at SUNY Fredonia before visiting JCC to speak to a very large group of surrounding school districts. Check out the article below for more. Thanks to Chris for sharing his impactful story with our students!
- All those teachers and staff who are creating lessons on Hispanic culture for Hispanic Heritage Month
- Our Elementary PTO for organizing another exciting movie night to be held 9/23 - check out more below under Upcoming Events!
Each of our buildings are having a great time celebrating National Hispanic Hertiage Month, which runs from September 15 through October 15. Our English as a New Language (ENL) department has designed a whole month of activities across grade levels to share Hispanic culture with our students and staff. We are doing things like sharing facts and music during morning announcements, celebrating Hispanic authors and stories with displays in the library, learning about Hispanic food and prominent historical figures in the classroom, and much more. We look forward to sharing more about what is happening in our buildings to honor and celebrate this month!
It's always great to start the week with a Bills win! 🤩🏈
Mrs. Tomaszewski's class had a blast working in the kitchen getting pumped for the game. We love their festive spirit. GO BILLS!
Chalk the Walk Tradition Continues
A little rain didn't stop our Senior Class of 2023 from celebrating their final year with this fun annual tradition! A few days into the new year (when things had dried up a bit), they took to the pavement and showed their creativity. We love seeing this tradition continue!
Student Artwork Selected for Charity Auction
Last spring students at both the Middle and High school level created butterfly artworks for the 6th Annual Charity Auction to support Hospice and Palliative Care of Chautauqua County. Butterflies are the theme chosen to represent hope and a transition in life. Out of hundreds of artworks created by students from a variety of local districts, we had many student artworks
chosen.

Students and their parents were invited to attend the dinner and auction at the Chautauqua Inn and Suites in Mayville on Friday. Students were able to experience the auction atmosphere and learned a little about how this auction started and how it supports our community. Money raised by the donation of work is split between Hospice and donating districts. All other proceeds support the important work of Hospice in our community. Haley Blue's artwork was part of a bidding war, with a last second bid bringing the final price up to $130. Mrs. Noody, Mrs. Lavelle, and Ms. Sheldon are extremely proud of the students whose work was selected.
Core Value: Respect
Our teachers and staff have been working on hallway rules and etiquette with our students. They decided to get a little silly and model some of the behavior they frequently see in the halls. Thanks for focusing on our core value of respect and having a little fun along the way!
Career Day - with a TV star!
Former Fredonia graduate and younger brother of physical education teacher Ashley Emser became a television star in Spain. Kyle Scudder returned to Fredonia and attended a “Meet and Greet” with his former fourth-grade teacher, Mrs. Price. What a fun visit!
Earn Regents Credit in Visual Art and Music
Our district is proud to announce that we have been chosen to pilot the IAAP - Individual Arts Assessment Pathway - for our students beginning this year. What is the IAAP?
The Individual Arts Assessment Pathway is graduation pathway option in which students complete a locally determined three-unit sequence in the arts and demonstrate, through a collection of creative works, growth over time that meets the High School II Accomplished Performance Indicators in the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts.
We look forward to sharing more info soon about this pathway to graduation. Check out some quick facts below and contact your art teacher if you are interested in learning more!
Helping Families In Need - Every Weekend
Fredonia CSD is once again partnering with FeedMore WNY to assist families with food insecurity. The Food Bank and Meals on Wheels has joined to become FeedMore WNY. The program offers food free of charge to any family regardless of income. Our counseling team provides bags of non-perishable foods to classrooms on Fridays for participating students to take home over the weekend. If you are interested in learning more, please reach out to Cassie Farrell, Elementary Social Worker, at cfarrell@fcsd.wnyric.org or (716) 679-1581 x2440.
