Abbi's Step by Step to a Cross Country Victory
Abbi Hutchinson competed in the State Cross Country Meet this past weekend at the University of Minnesota. Abbi shared with us that her pregame ritual is a simple one, as she simply enjoys having a fruit snack 30 minutes before the race begins. Although her ritual seems easy, the preparation that she has put into her cross country career as a Bronco athlete over the years, certainly has not been.
This year Abbi Hutchinson's was back for her 2nd shot at the state cross country event. Her goal was to get a better time and place higher than the year before. She started her race on Saturday, Nov 4th, and ran at Les Bolstad Golf Course, which also happens to be near the college she will attend. As a senior, Abbi says the things she will miss most about Cross Country would be the coaches and her team.

Boys Basketball Tips Off New Season
The Falls Bronco Basketball Team has a new face this year, with Coach Anselmo taking over as the new head coach for the varsity team. Mr. Awe will also be joining basketball as the JV coach for this year. This season the basketball team will have two seniors, Hendrix Torgerson and Kalan Kittleson. Their first game will be at home against Chisholm on December 5th. Kids from the FHS Journalism Class asked Coach Anselmo a few questions about this season, as well as himself. First we asked what his goals were for this season. He responded with “My goals for the season are to get my boys to play hard and put their best effort into the team. I want our win-loss record to be around .500 so 12-12 I think is a very reachable goal.” He also told us that he had previously coached at Bigfork for three years before coming to the Falls for his fourth season of coaching. We also asked what his inspiration was for coaching. “I was inspired at a young age to coach basketball from the coach I had when I was playing. I love the game and love teaching about the game because I think there is more to it than just wins and losses. Basketball is a team sport and seeing everything come together and see everyone working together and as one is what I get joy out of,” he replied. He also revealed that he had played basketball from his third, to senior year and that his favorite NBA team is the Minnesota Timberwolves. When we asked what was one thing you want players to hear, he responded “I want my players to hear that time flies and before you know it, it will all be over with so don’t take it for granted. You will not remember the scores of the games you played or always remember your record but you will remember the friends you played with and the long bus rides and all the good memories you had.” “My philosophy is if I am able to get everyone to play together as one we will be successful. Everyone has to do their job/role right and to 100%. I need everyone working as hard as they can and hustling/playing to the whistle. I like to spread out the offense with many cuts and screens and moving the ball quickly to get an open shot. I push defense and rebounding really hard because the more possessions we get the more chances we have to score. And when we stop the opposing team from scoring that's in our favor,” he said after we asked about his philosophy. He stated “My favorite part about coaching is getting to know my players on a personal level and watching them improve night in and night out. I am here for the players and want the best for them. My favorite part also is the almost like chess match that is happening during the game and figuring out what the opposing team is doing and adjusting to their gameplan.” Our final question was “What is one interesting thing about you that not many people know?” He replied “An interesting fact about me that not many people know is that I graduated with only 15 kids in my class and was the only senior on all the sports teams I played senior year.”
