A message from the Chief Financial Officer
Dear GLOBE Community,
I am pleased to present The GLOBE Academy’s 2021-2022 Financial Audit. For the eighth year in a row, GLOBE has received a clean financial audit, free of any findings. You can find a copy of the report here.
Why is this important? A recent study found that twenty-five percent of charter schools fail by year 5 and forty percent fail by year 10. The primary drivers of these failures are poor governance and financial mismanagement. Strong governance and strong financials provide the foundation needed to hire great teachers who provide students with a top-notch education. A long track record of strong financials also allows us greater access to financial markets to support our long-term growth.
Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions. I can be reached directly at cfo@theglobeacademy.net.
Regards,
Denise M. Clayton-Purvis
Chief Financial Officer
Join us for tomorrow’s coffee talk, hosted by our Director of Language Program, Sandra Daniel

K–5 program model
6–8 program model
goals for grade levels
how to help
When: Thursday, November 10 at 9:00am.
Where: Lower Campus (Village Plaza)
If you have a specific question, please let us know about it here.
Sandra Daniel is a highly communicative polyglot (English, Spanish, Italian, French, Portuguese, and some Mandarin) with over 15 years experience in education. She is currently the Director of Language Program at The GLOBE Academy where she has worked since 2014.
Mrs. Daniel has been a teacher of World Language, English as a Second Language, Dual Language Immersion, as well as an Instructional Coach in the past, and does consulting work with the Georgia Department of Education.
GLOBE Trot moved to November 18
Due to the forecast of severe weather, the GLOBE Trot event has been postponed until Friday, November 18. You can read the communication regarding this decision, here.
Please keep sharing your child's fundraising page with friends and family. So far we have raised over $89K! We need your help to reach our goal of $140,000.

Volunteering at GLOBE Trot
Due to the change in date, there are a few open slots available for parents to volunteer. You can view the current list of sign-ups here.
Veterans Day
This Friday is Veterans Day and we believe that it is very important to celebrate our veterans. If there are any past (or current) service members in your family, please let us know by emailing us a picture and stating which branch of the military and/or theatre of operation they served (or currently serve) in.
We will display the names/pictures in the front of the school at Upper Campus and recognize them in our announcements. Thank you for your service.
Middle School Science Fair is coming!
Save the date: Thursday, December 1, for our annual Middle School Science Fair. Prepare to be amazed by the creativity and innovation of our Middle School students as we explore topics ranging from mold to moods, sleep cycles, to the effects of video games! 4th and 5th grade students will have their fair during the next semester.
More details about the Science Fair will be shared in coming weeks. In the meantime, check out the picture of our 5th grade Mandarin track students working to better understand the process of weathering and exposition by using cookies in a fun science experiment, along with the following video of two GLOBE students during their asynchronous learning day. These ladies went above and beyond by recreating a science experiment demonstrating rain falling from clouds.
Upper Campus notes
Early dismissal
All changes in dismissal procedures must occur before 2:35pm. If you are calling to have us inform the student of a change, or if you are picking up for early dismissal in person, we cannot accommodate these requests after 2:35pm as it interrupts the natural flow of dismissal.
NO PARKING at UC Front office security gate
Please do not park in the small area at the gated entrance to the front office/school. The parking of cars in this space has created unsafe conditions for both children and vehicles when multiple vehicles are backing out of this narrow area. Instead, please park in a regular parking spot (in the large main parking lot) and walk to the gate/front office for check out.
Chromebook care
Please remind your students to treat their Chromebooks with care (respect and sustainability). Chromebooks should not be kept in backpacks with water bottles.
Connections at Lower Campus
What is your student enjoying in the library?
Fiction story time
Some Kindergarten favorites have been Blueberries for Sal, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Goldilocks and The Three Pandas, The Three Javelinas. Grades 2 and 3 have started chapter book read alouds. First grade is loving the genre trickster stories, including Anansi, The Fox Tales, A Bargain for Frances, the Road Runner and Wiley Coyote.
Every class heard the book Adrian Simcox Does Not Have A Horse, by Marcy Campbell, to promote empathy during Peace Week.
Nonfiction read alouds
The most requested book for checkout has been The Not Bad Animals, by Sophie Corrigan. Your child would love this book as a holiday gift!
Free choice - a variety of play activities and book checkout.
During Peace Week, the students were challenged to play Tic Tac Toe and remain peaceful while winning and losing. Book checkout is strongly encouraged during free choice time. Children are able to check out 3 books at a time. During Free Choice, having book checkout reduces the time students stand in line waiting to checkout.
Thank you to all the families who have been supportive of the library and reminding your child to look for those pesky lost books. The rotation of connections classes makes it difficult to remember when your child has library, but if your child tells you they had music today, then they will always have library tomorrow.
Parent Teacher Community Council
Spirit Night at DEFY

Opportunity to Give Thanks
This Thanksgiving month, please join the PTCC in giving thanks to our wonderful teachers and staff. On Wednesday, November 16, please have your child bring thank-you notes to their favorite teachers and staff. (Grown-ups are welcome to send in their thanks, too, of course!) Let’s show our teachers and staff how much we appreciate all they do for our kids and our community!
