March Reading Madness!

To encourage good reading habits outside of school, and to have some fun, Gearity Professional Development School is holding a March Madness-style read-a-thon!

  • Each Monday, homeroom teachers will send home the new reading log for that week’s competition, regardless if the homeroom is on the bracket or not.

  • Each week, the minutes read by the class will be averaged (someone not turning in a log will impact the class average).

  • Teams with the highest averages move onto the next round of competition.

  • Eliminated classes keep reading. If an eliminated class has more average minutes read than a team still in the competition, the class can get back on the bracket, knocking out the lowest team on the bracket.

  • Students that read 100+ minutes in a week will be able to choose an item from a specially curated collection of prizes that cannot be purchased in the PAWS store.

  • The winning class will win bragging rights as champion and a special class prize (to be shared at the conclusion of the competition).

Scholastic PAWS Award Ceremony

Today, the Gearity teachers recognized 8 students per grade level for academic achievement. Students who earned a Personal Best certificate were recognized for high achievement or growth in their classes. Acting responsible certificates were earned for completing and turning in all classwork. Working safely certificates were awarded to students who consistently exhibit safe behavior in their classes. Finally, students who earned Showing Respect certificates were recognized for being good group partners.

We are planning to have a staff versus students basketball game on March 21st. In order to participate, students will need to earn 5 A points for work completion and 5 S points for showing respect in the classroom. We are planning to have an art enrichment for students who are not interested in sports. We want to ensure that students are focused on academics, working towards a fun goal, and completing all work prior to Parent Teacher Conferences.

Kindergarten Information Night is Coming Soon ...

We need your help spreading the word - Gearity will host our Kindergarten Information Night on March 21st from 6-7 pm. Please let any family members who live in University Heights or neighbors who have future kindergarten students know about the event. Families will have an opportunity to meet our Kindergarten team. They will also learn how to register their new student, about readiness assessments, and how to find important school information (such as busing, daily menus, academic programs, etc...).
