The Boerne ISD Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting in the BISD Board Room on Monday, May 15th, 2023.

Board Commendations
The Board commended Boerne ISD students and staff, as well as celebrated district-wide honors. Below are some of the honorees.

BHS/CHS Tennis State Qualfiers
- Sam and Jess Gonzales (BHS) won the State Championship in Boy's Doubles
- The Chargers had three Bronze Medalists
CHS Theatre Bronze Medal
- Back to Back State Medals for CHS Theatre
- Gold in 2022, Bronze in 2023
Exceptional Seniors
- Yedriel Rivera (CHS) and Cole Gentry (BHS)

Military Service Academy
- Champion's Samuel Krupa (US Merchant Marine Academy)
- Boerne’s Sam Waters and Will French (United States Military Academy)
- Boerne’s Houston Hendrix (Air Force Academy)
BHS/CHS Track State Qualifiers
- Charger Freshman Beth Leachman won the State Championship in the 1600 meters.
- Boerne's Tori Adams won the Class 4A State Silver Medal in Shot Put for the second straight season.
VASE Winners
- Boerne’s Brayden Gardner took home two Gold Seals, the highest honor in the state
BHS/CHS Golf State Qualifiers
- Price Hill (BHS), Phoenix Guerra (CHS), and Savannah Dupre (CHS) all won Region IV Gold Medals
- The Charger Girls are competing at State today
CHS Academic Success
- Christine Shneiker (CHS) was a State finalist for UIL 5A Congressional Debate.
BISD Fine Arts
- Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation
FES Troy Latiolais
- Distinguished Administrator Designation from the Texas Music Educators Association
BHS Amy Ruede
- Texas High School Coaches Association Girls Basketball Region 8 Coach of the Year
CHS Chris Adamek
- Finalist for the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 5A Don Coleman Outstanding Coach Award
SRO Awards
- Officer Roger Fuentes, the Boerne High School SRO, (Top Gun Award)
- Corporal David Chavez, the SRO at Boerne Middle School North (Fit for Duty award)
Strategic Planning Committee
- Dr. Price thanked the Strategic Planning Committee for their hard work
New Principals Named
Current Curington Elementary Principal Matt Myers will serve as Principal of Elementary School #8, while Talia Hernandez will replace Myers as Curington Principal.

Board Members Sworn In
Trustees Kristi Schmidt (Place 6), and Rich Sena (Place 7) were sworn in by 451st District Judge Kirsten Cohoon.
Both Mrs. Schmidt and Mrs. Sena were unopposed and were automatically elected to three-year terms.
This will be Mr. Sena's fifth term and Mrs. Schmidt's first term.
Board Reorganizes Leadership
The Board conducted its annual reorganization and approved new leadership.
Mr. Carlin Friar (President), Mr. Garrett Wilson (Vice President), and Dr. Joe Tidwell (Secretary) were voted to serve in new capacities.
At the first regular meeting after each election and qualification of Board members, the Boerne ISD Board reorganizes by selecting these positions.
Outgoing Board President Honored
Dr. Price presented outgoing Board President Mr. Rich Sena with a plaque to thank him for his leadership and strong support during the past year.
Mr. Sena is starting his fifth term on the Board.

Dr. Price presented outgoing Trustee Mrs. Donna Sharp with a plaque to thank her for her leadership and strong support during her many years serving on the Board.

Superintendent's Report
- Dr. Price thanked Nineteen Ten Church for hosting our Annual Legacy Retirement Banquet, as well as Oak Hills Church for hosting our upcoming 2023-24 Convocation on August 2, 2023.
- Three BISD Elementary Schools were named National Showcase Schools: Fair Oaks Ranch, Curington, and Herff.
- BISD will host Workforce Days this week at Champion and Boerne High. Over 40 businesses and organizations will be on hand to offer our students jobs.
- The Class of 2023 earned a combined total of $22 million dollars in scholarships. Both BHS and CHS earned $11 million in scholarships
- BMSS Social Studies Teacher Brook Taylor was named a Whatateacher by Whataburger. She earned a $1,000 classroom grant as well as a gift basket from Whataburger
- Over 130 student-athletes were named Academic All-State during the 2022-23 school year
