WVGSA Testing for 3rd - 5th Grades
Our schedule is:
Monday - Reading
Tuesday - Math
Thursday - Writing
Friday - Science - ONLY 5th grade
State tests allow us to see the areas of strength and areas of need for each of our students. While they will not determine if your child passes the grade level, they do allow us to know what skills they need additional help with next year.
It is of utmost importance that each student take their time, put forth their best effort, and strive to show all they know.
As parents, we need your assistance with the following:
* Talk to your child about the importance of putting forth their best effort
* Have your child at school on time - we are asking students be at school by 7:45 a.m.
* Eat breakfast - either at home or at school
* Get plenty of rest the night before each test.
Give your child a hug and tell them you are proud of their effort.
No School - Friday, May 14
Bus Loop
The bus drivers also appreciate our parents not being in the loop during the AM drop off times.
5th Graders to Visit BUMS
Students will board their regular bus at the regular time on May 27. Instead of coming to HES, they will be transported to BUMS.
There will be a 2:00 dismissal for that date.
iPads and Chargers
If your child has misplaced their iPad charging block or cord, we ask that you purchase a replacement to return with the iPad.
Your child will use this charging and block for use next year with their iPad.
Remote Student iPads and Chargers
Classroom teachers will provided expectations as far as work and what needs completed prior to turning in the iPad.
BUHS Senior Scholarship
Each year, our school provides a $500 scholarship to a BUHS senior who plans to continue their education after graduation.
We invite each senior to submit an essay addressing the following:
- How has your education contributed to who you are today?
- Discuss how your interest in your field or major developed and describe your experience in the field –
such as volunteer work or internships – and what you gained from this involvement.
- Briefly describe your long and short term goals.
- Why are you the best candidate to receive this scholarship?
We invite all of our stakeholders to read the submitted essays and vote for the senior you feel best represents the vision of Hodgesville Elementary School.
One vote per family, please.
Voting will close May 17 at 12:00 p.m.

Pool Party for Grades 3 - 5 to Celebrate Hard Work on the WVGSA
Swimming Party!!!!!!!
To celebrate the hard work and superb effort of our 3rd – 5th graders on the end of the year WVGSA (WV General Summative Assessment) sessions, we are having a swimming party at the Upshur County Recreational Park swimming pool on May 27, 2020. We will depart school at 9:30 a.m. and return at 2:20 p.m.
Students will be provided with a school packed lunch, but may also bring items of their choice.
Students must put forth their best effort on all sessions of the WVGSA in order to attend. Please remember the pool has been rented for a private party and will not be open to the public that day.
We ask that children wear their bathing suits under their clothes on May 27 in order to maximize the time for swimming. Also, students need to bring their own towel and sunscreen. Adults will be available to assist your child with applying sunscreen.
While we cannot transport parents on the bus for this activity, we would like to invite parents to meet us at BUHS to assist with the activity.
To help us keep the children safe at this activity, we do need to know if your child is able to swim. Students who cannot swim will be kept in the shallow section of the pool.
