Domain I: Knowing the Content
Knowing the Content: The professional education program provides evidence that Instructional Technology Specialist certification candidates complete a program at a bachelor's or postbaccalaureate degree level that requires them to demonstrate their knowledge of and competence in the application of instructional technology in public school settings. The program requires candidates to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental and advanced concepts of instructional technology planning and applications at elementary, middle, and secondary levels (K 12) including:

Identification, selection, installation and maintenance of technology infrastructure, and

- Assessment of educational and administrative technological needs
- Understand effective methods for conducting needs assessment as part of a three year technology plan
- Demonstrate knowledge of assessment practices as shown through sound decisions regarding professional development programs and other issues.
- Design and production of media including projected and non-projected visual aids, audio and video production in both analog and digital forms, and photography using film-based and digital formats
- Plan and produce instructional video.
- Projected & non-projected graphics techniques
- Still and Motion Photography
- Design and produce a web-based electronic portfolio showcasing individually created multimedia curriculum/work-related projects.
- Develop black and white traditional prints using film-based darkroom skills and then digitize them for inclusion in the electronic portfolio.
- Design and production of media including projected and non-projected visual aids, audio and video production in both analog and digital forms, and photography using film-based and digital formats
- Show understanding of presentation media as a means of planning for the Certification Interview.
- Implementation and maintenance of interactive information systems, the internet, distance learning technologies, and networks
- Computer Utilization and application and interactive systems
- Provide detail as part of a three year technology plan that implies comprehensive understanding of implementation and maintenance of interactive information systems, the internet, distance learning technologies, and networks.
- Assistive technology resources for students with special needs
- Demonstrate knowledge of assistive technology resources and the means by which they may be prescribed for students with special needs.
- Evaluation of the performance of hardware and software components of computer systems
- Understand how to provide for the evaluation of the performance of hardware and software components of computer systems in a three year technology plan.
- Understand evaluation of the performance of hardware and software components of computer systems as needed to function effectively in the field.
- Application of basic troubleshooting strategies
- Demonstrate knowledge of basic troubleshooting strategies when creating web pages and interactive web
- Demonstrate knowledge of basic troubleshooting strategies when called upon by circumstances to troubleshoot in the field.
