Greetings Islip Middle School Families,
Can you believe it, Spring has sprung and we are on the home stretch! I hope this note finds you healthy, well, and recharged after the spring recess. It really is wonderful to get outside and enjoy the fresh air and we encourage our students to disconnect and go outdoors.
Joining our newsletter distribution for the first time are our incoming 6th grade parents! On Tuesday, May 9th, at 7:00 pm, all 5th grade students and parents are invited to attend our 5th to 6th grade orientation in person in our Middle School auditorium.
Our Middle School musicians are excited about the upcoming concerts and the dates are located within the calendar portion of the newsletter.
I want to continue to emphasize, should you have any questions or challenges, please contact me, Mr. Juengerkes, Mr. Santoro, your child’s teacher, guidance counselor, social worker, or psychologist. All our contact information is available on the Islip Middle School webpage.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and support.
Wishing you good health and happiness,

Islip Middle School Families,
It’s May!
It’s the home stretch and we can see the finish line. This wonderful school year will soon come to a close, but not before we visit Ellis Island with our 8th graders (soon to be high school students), have another spirit week, and a 5th to 6th grade orientation. Not to mention a host of other activities.
The Washington D.C. trip was wonderful. The Lincoln Memorial, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Vietnam, WWII, and the Korean War Memorial not to mention Georgetown University and a Nationals game. Special thanks to Ms. Cabanas for all her hard work and coordination. It was truly amazing! Also, a shoutout to our chaperones who took precious time from their lives to enjoy the trip and finally thank you to the students who were tremendous and solidified the experience being one we will never forget. THANK YOU!
June brings with it the opportunity to reflect and sharpen the saw. Our advisory activities will be focused on considering where we have been throughout the school year, where it has taken us and where we’ll be going. It’s a very exciting time of year with much influx and the scent of opportunity, warmth, and new beginning in the air.
Always enjoy,
Curt Juengerkes

Greetings Islip Middle School,
I hope each of you and your families enjoyed your spring break. We’ve reached the fourth and final marking period of the school year; the countdown has begun. It’s time to buckle down and focus so each of you can achieve your personal best as state assessments have begun and finals and/or regents exams are right around the corner. Part of growing up is developing the ability to work through stressful and challenging times so we can enjoy all of the wonderful experiences life has to offer.
There are many exciting activities that will be taking place in addition to all the academics. Our seventh graders will be attending an assembly presented by Mad Science of Long Island which will contain a few mind-blowing science experiments. Our eighth graders will be attending an assembly presented by Theater Tree titled, From the Fires, and going on a field trip to Ellis Island.
I leave you with a quote:
"Learning is the only thing that the mind never exhausts, never fears, and never regrets."
- Leonardo da Vinci
With gratitude,

May 2023
The end of the year is rapidly approaching – it sure feels like September was just last week!
This month, 7th graders will be visited by their school counselor to discuss the differences between 7th and 8th grade. End of year exams are slightly different in 8th grade than what students are used to because now these end of year exams include Regents exams in Math and Earth Science, as well as the FLACS Exam in Foreign Language. These three classes are high school level courses and will appear on student transcripts when they apply to college.
Speaking of finals and Regents exams approaching, your counselors want to remind you of the many resources you have at your fingertips!
- Be sure to attend extra help for any subjects you may be having trouble with. Check with your teacher to see when their extra help is being offered.
- Homework Help is offered every week, Monday through Thursday, until 3:15 in the Fire Island Dining Room.
- See your counselor in the Guidance Office for handy study tips.
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help! We all want to see you succeed!
We have some exciting activities coming up this month for our transitioning students! During the month of May, Middle School counselors will visit the 5th grade classes to discuss all of the wonderful things about the Middle School! Incoming 6th graders and their parents should also be sure to attend our 5th to 6th Grade Orientation Night on Tuesday, May 9th at Islip Middle School. Eighth graders will be visited by members of the high school’s Buccaneer University to answer any questions they might have about High School. Following their visit from the High School, on Friday, May 19th 8th graders will participate in “Transition Day” where they will come together as teams and compete in various games and activities on the high school field while getting to know some high school students. It is sure to be a day of fun!
On Wednesday April 5th, IMS hosted its first Annual Lip Sync Battle! Students and teachers chose songs close to their heart to perform on stage in front of a live audience. From the costumes, to dances, and props, it was quite an entertaining afternoon for all! Participants were awarded certificates from Best Costume to Best Choreography, and all received participation medals. Congratulations to all on their performances! We thank you for your continued support and look forward to next year’s battle!
