Student and Staff Wellness Update
One of the first LASD-sponsored wellness events will be held on October 4 and is focused on teen substance use.
What: Teen Substance Use Workshop
When: October 4, 6:30 pm
Where: Los Altos Library, Orchard Room
For staff, LASD implemented a new app called Seity. Staff has been participating in this program since the beginning of the school year, completing a full wellness questionnaire and daily wellness check in. A team of staff members are volunteering as the LASD wellness "Go Team" to promote well-being as well as the Seity program in the district. LASD is also partnering with Silicon Valley Therapy Services and CHAC to connect staff members to mental health services. Additionally, Covington Principal Wade Spenader developed a workshop based on current mental-health research. The workshop provides teachers with tools to manage stress so they can focus on providing the best instructional experience for our students.

10th Site Community Engagement Update
Superintendent McGonagle explained that when the Santa Clara County Board of Education approved the charter for Bullis Charter School in 2003, the Los Altos School District was legally required to provide facilities for the charter school. Facilities negotiations have been extremely challenging for over a decade, including the sharing of school facilities, which is why LASD decided to begin a community engagement process in 2019 to determine a long term solution to house the charter school.
Since the Board paused the engagement process in March 2020, many factors have changed, including the purchase of the 10th site; enrollment changes due to the pandemic; expansion of the Transitional Kindergarten program; and a notice of concern from the Santa Clara County Board of Education that included the possibility of non-renewal of Bullis Charter School.
Superintendent McGonagle suggested many areas for further study to allow the Board to resume the public community engagement process. The Board gave direction for staff to bring back information for a new demographer's report regarding future enrollment, as well as a financial update related to facilities.
In addition, the Board asked the Superintendent to schedule a Board study session to discuss any updated data and information, as well as to update the community on the process going forward.

New School Site Preparations
At its September 6th meeting, the Board of Trustees received an update regarding the Environmental Impact Review process in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
After a public review process, the draft Environmental Impact Report is now underway for the LASD school site. The EIR will evaluate the site for a 900 student TK-8 school to provide the most flexibility in the school's final design and enrollment.
