Hemlock High School

This week is the 27th week for the 2020-2021 school year.

One Year Ago, it was 11:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2020, when Governor Whitmer went live on the airwaves to announce that out of an abundance of caution, K-12 schools would close for three weeks. We have learned many lessons over this year, one of which is that our Huskie Pack is agile and able to handle the challenges thrown our way.

At this time, we do have one incident of a student at our high school that contracted COVID-19 not related to school but has resulted in 13 students being quarantined. As you look ahead at the calendar for March, we only have one remote learning day that remains for the month, which is Friday, March 26th. That day will be asynchronous learning as well to provide everyone flexibility as we head into spring break.

We will start to work on version 3.0 of the district's strategic plan this spring and will be seeking input from our stakeholders. Click here to view our current plan.

Please help us congratulate Rebecca Willour as Hemlock High School’s Class of 2021 Co-Salutatorian. She is the daughter of Karen and Christopher Willour. Rebecca plans to attend Central Michigan University to major in biology and become a Physician’s Assistant. She has been Class Vice President for two years, a member of Student Council for three years and is also a member of the National Honor Society. She participates in drama club, art club, varsity tennis and varsity soccer.

A big congratulations goes to Hemlock High School's Class of 2021 Co-Salutatorian, Nathan Nowicki. Nathan is the son of Jennifer and Casey Glazier. He is undecided on what college he will be attending and plans on majoring in economics to become an economic analyst for the Federal Reserve. He was on the President’s List of Delta College for spring/summer and fall 2020 semesters. Nathan is also the media and sound controller for a local church.

If you are interested in becoming a COOP student next year, there will be a coop meeting this Friday during 7th hour.

Are planning on playing a spring sport? Make sure you have completed the following:

1) Registered in FinalForms with the spring sport of your choice selected

2) Completed the physical requirement for this school year; a) New physical OR b) last year's physical PLUS the MHSAA Health Questionnaire

Saginaw Intermediate School district is hosting a virtual job fair in partnership with Great Lakes Michigan Works. This job fair is for high school students, ages 16-18, who are interested in a summer job.

The attached flyer provides details regarding the job fair. Students may register by completing this Google Form. The job fair will be conducted through a Zoom meeting.

A list of employers, job descriptions, and job postings will be limited to only those students that complete the Google Form. Once the student makes their selections, a Zoom link will be provided via email.

Resumes must be emailed to Ann Batkoski at abatkoski@sisd.cc before 3:00 pm April 14.

If for some reason a student has an extracurricular activity such as a sporting event on the dates of the job fair, please let Ann Batkoski know that you have a scheduling conflict.
