5th Grade Science with Mr. McIntosh
Welcome Back, 5th Grade! Let’s do some science!
Happy New Year and welcome back! I am so glad to be with you as we start this new semester of science investigation and research. We’ll slowly get back into the swing of things with some reading that will set us up for our Friday CC session. Because the reading passage is in Grolier’s Encyclopedia online, I have included the reading sections in the file sharing located in the OLS. If you need a reminder of how to get to those files, watch this video that explains it. I will also email the article to each of you so that there will be a couple of ways to access it. There is a short quiz in USA Test Prep that will cover the content of that reading. Next week we will look more closely at the Earth and moon as planet and natural satellite. Be sure to check out the information below about the Chinese spacecraft that just landed on the moon.
News of Astronomy for the Week: As we discuss the moon in more depth this week and next, an exciting development occurred last week in astronomy. For the FIRST TIME EVER, a spacecraft has landed on the dark side of the moon. Check out more information about this historic event in this article from Earthsky.org. Also of interest – there is a total lunar eclipse later this month (the night of Jan. 20-21) with the year’s first supermoon. Research what a supermoon is before our next class.
OLS Lessons for Jan. 9-11
