Connect2Texas
Fort Worth Museum of Science and History
Now, you and your students can connect and interact LIVE with the Museum’s collections and team of experts without ever leaving your campus. Your students will explore science and mathematics with curators, staff and special guests through interactive videoconferencing. Our programs align with Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills and the Next Generation Science Standards and are customized to fit your grade level curricular needs.
Kits are available for all programs. A kit includes materials for interactive experiments for 30 students, a Teacher’s Guide, extension activities and resources.

Adaptation Exploration: Owls
Cost: $140
Length: 50 minutes
Owls are remarkable birds and serve as an incredible model for your students learn about form, function, and adaptations! Leishawn Spotted Bear will make these concepts come alive using interactive activities and the Museum’s outstanding bird collection. Young students (K-2nd) will focus on the function of different body parts and bird characteristics, while older students (3rd-5th) will use body parts and systems to discuss adaptations and to compare/contrast birds with other types of animals. Both programs integrate language arts techniques (so have your students bring a journal or pencil and paper) and feature an owl pellet dissection. Kit will include 11 owl pellets.
All About Matter
Grades: K-8
Cost: $140
Length: 50 minutes
Combine bubbles, eyedroppers, air in different states and you have an incredibly interactive program with staff from the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. We will focus on the unusual characteristics of water, use process skills to observe and ask questions using bubbles, and play with components of air in solid, liquid and gaseous states. Your students actively participate with staff throughout the program as they learn more about the interaction between different states of matter. Kit will be mailed which includes supplies needed for student experiment, along with other goodies for your classroom.
Animals of The Mitten
Grades: K-2
Cost: $100 (includes book)
Length: 50 minutes
"The Mitten" by Jan Brett is a delightful book based on a Ukrainian folktale. A child’s lost mitten plays host to a wide variety of wild animals. In this program, learn the true natural history of the fascinating creatures from the story with Leishawn Spotted Bear, Museum science curator. Your students will act out portions of the tale, meet the Museum's hedgehogs while learning about animal parts (adaptations), animal needs, and predator/prey relationships. Other specimens from our collection will be used to help deepen your class’ understanding of these fundamental life science concepts. You will receive a copy of The Mitten with your registration for this program.
Bird's the Word: Battle of the Beaks
Grades: 1-5
Cost: $140
Length: 50 minutes
Birds are one of the easiest animals to view in our neighborhood or out in the wild. Through observation, we can investigate physical features, unique behaviors, and adaptation strategies that help birds to survive in the environment. Join us as we study some familiar birds from the museum’s science collections. We will learn about bird characteristics, identify species, and discover different shapes of bird beaks. Have your students bring a journal or paper and pencil. During the program, we will conduct a “bird beak” activity and record the data.
Eggs Everywhere
Grades: K-8
Cost: $140
Length: 50 minutes
Join Leishawn Spotted Bear for a totally immersive program that will have your students observing, predicting, writing, drawing and interacting, all around eggs. Eggs are one of nature's most perfect designs and are an incredible way to learn about life cycles, adaptations and survival. We'll use simple materials like chicken eggs to bring out your student's observation skills and specimens from our teaching collection to hone their ability to predict. Throughout the session, the purpose of eggs and the different animals that lay eggs will be emphasized. Program includes a kit with materials needed for chicken egg dissection, along with other goodies for your classroom.
Geometric Transformations
Grades: 3-8
Cost: $140
Length: 50 minutes
Ready for a mind-bending, shape-shifting approach to learning the connection between two dimensions and three dimensions? Join Museum staff Anne Herndon in this hands-on geometry session. Using simple materials-scissors, tape and strips of paper-your students will create three dimensional loops, then transform them into unusual two dimensional shapes. We'll even create and explore mobius loops. What a hands-on experience to introduce or reinforce topology. Kit will be mailed which includes supplies needed for student explorations, along with other goodies for your classroom.
Icy Science
Grades: 2-8
Cost: $140
Length: 50 minutes
Looking for a "chilling" experience using one of the world's most unusual substances that will support your student’s process skill development? Then freeze some water, grab some salt and get ready for hands-on explorations that emphasize observation and questioning skills. During this highly interactive program, your students learn more about the skills they use in science every day and how you can strengthen these skills. While ice seems like a simple phenomenon, investigating ice will uncover important properties of matter concepts— changes of states, freezing point, and molecular structures. A kit with all the material needed (except a freezer) will be mailed to you prior to your program.
Investigations in Weathering, Erosion and Depositions
Grades: 3-5
Cost: $140
Length: 50 minutes
Get ready to shake it up and move mountains! Your students will experience the processes of weathering, erosion and deposition as they use earth materials to gain a better understanding of earth science. They will participate in engaging activities that will allow them to distinguish between each of these processes.
Resolve to Dissolve
Grades: 3-5
Cost: $140
Length: 50 minutes
Instead of dissolving pounds, we'll dissolve liquids, solids and gases in this incredibly interactive program! Does something that dissolves just disappear? Students will find out the answer by experimenting with different solutes and solvents and observing the reactions of each. Mixtures and solutions will be identified throughout this interactive process as students collect and interpret the information. A kit will be mailed with materials for the experiments.
STEM in Action: Scribblebots
Grades: 4-8
Cost: $140
Length: 50 minutes
The perfect combination of science, engineering and technology, scribblebots are motorized machines that move in chaotic ways, leaving interesting artistic patterns in their wake. Collaborative teams of students will move through the Engineering Design Process by making simple circuits and offset motors, then test and manipulate variables. The result is an interactive robot that demonstrates the scientific concepts of electricity, force and motion with a wildly creative outcome. A kit will be provided with all needed materials.
Storm School
Grades: 3-5
Cost: FREE
Length: 50 minutes
Learn about the science behind severe weather during Storm School with Jeff Jamison, CBS 11 Meteorologist. Jeff will share the science concepts underlying the weather we experience throughout the year using demonstrations, both in your classroom and in our studio. He’ll also be available to answer your students’ toughest weather questions. A portion of each week’s presentation will be recorded and scheduled to air during one of the weather segments later in the week.
