The PTO forms are ready for you to fill out. Get a jump start on the back to school craziness by completing the directory and volunteer forms. To be included in the directory, you must complete the directory form every year. The volunteer form is a great way to learn about more events at McKinley. Check a box if you are interested in and the chair of the event will contact you with more information on how to get involved.

Two room parents are typically chosen for each classroom teacher.
Anyone interested in volunteering as a room parents should sign up by August 10, so we have time to make room parent assignments by the August 17 class list posting date.

The other new line item is for PTO Classroom Parent Donations for the Staff and Special Class Gifts. This includes the office staff, art, Spanish, gym, music, band, orchestra, speech, etc. The suggested donation is $2.00 per student.
Safe Routes to School
Needed- Incoming 5th Graders.
5th grade students are needed to help “escort” younger students dropped off at the Hug and Go to their class lines in the mornings the first 2 weeks of school. Parent SRTS volunteers will be at each cut out helping students exit their cars.
Students will be expected to arrive at 8 a.m. on the mornings that you are volunteering. You will be excused to class once the first bell rings. Yellow “Hug and Go” safety vests will be available for you to wear to identify you as a volunteer.
A brief informational meeting/demonstration will be held during the parent information times at “Meet and Greet” on Monday, August 29th. Sarah Lerand will also be available at Forms and Fees day for any questions about the program.

Destination Imagination
For those who signed up for Destination Imagination last Spring, you should have received an email regarding the DI program for the upcoming school year. If not contact Monica Deluhery at monica.deluhery@gmail.com. Also, there is an upcoming Destination Imagination workshop on Aug. 16-18, from 9 am to noon in the Rec Room at Longfellow Middle School. Kids can attend one, two, or all three days. The workshop is open to rising third graders through rising eighth graders. Kids do NOT have to be past DI participants to come to the workshop. In fact, it would be a great introduction to DI for any kids who are considering joining a team next year. We will cover two topics every day, for a total of six topics throughout the workshop. All sessions are designed to teach kids skills that will be useful in solving DI challenges. The workshop costs $15/day, or $40 if you sign up for the entire three days. The price includes all materials and snacks. Again, please contact Monica for additional information.
