Principal's Message
Dear Sabre families,
We hope everyone enjoyed the beautiful weather this past weekend as we gear up for a return to classes. Before we get to the back to school schedule and review key procedures, it was simply awesome to see our students in the building over the past few days.
We understand that whether you are returning to SAL or new to the building, it comes with many different emotions, ranging from excitement to some nerves and anxiety, with everything in between. Hence, we are intentional in getting students adjusted to their new surroundings with welcome week activities throughout the end of August and into September.
Beginning on our first day, August 31, all grade 10 students and any new students coming to SAL are invited to our morning orientation. Formal program begins at 8:30 in the large gym. This will allow us the opportunity to familiarize our new Sabres to the school, get a chance to meet our staff, and have some fun with a pretty cool morning orientation planned.
By all means, for those returning Grade 11 and 12 students who take the bus in the morning and have no other mode of transportation, please join the morning festivities.
From 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., all students are invited for a Welcome Back BBQ lunch before we begin the afternoon. Students will attend all of their classes in a shortened schedule. See below for the abbreviated schedule:
Friday, September 1, will be a regular day of classes before we head into labor day weekend. Below is the full bell schedule for the 2023-2024 school year.

Shifting gears, those students in Grades 11 and 12 who were unable to attend this past Friday to request lockers, either individually or shared, can come to the office Thursday or Friday to do so. Furthermore, student photos for grades 11 and 12 will be taken on September 18 (Grade 11) and September 19 (Grade 12).
Similar and likewise, for those students in grade 10 who were unable to attend on Monday will have their photos taken on our pick-up on September 27, 2023.
With our school enrollment the highest we have seen this century, comes with more student drivers. Hence, we have designated parking areas, from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. with the goal of improving efficiency. Specifically, students will have two assigned parking lots, the front of the school and the back Festival Place lots. Staff will have one, that being at the back gymnasium entrance. With anything that is a new procedure, it will take time in getting used to this shift. We will be intentional on our supervision in helping get our school community adjusted.
In closing, we hope you have an awesome back to school experience this week. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
