A Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we draw closer to the end of our first semester, it's a prime opportunity to reflect on our students' journey so far. A heartfelt thank you to each of you who joined us for the recent parent-teacher conferences. Your involvement is crucial in shaping a fruitful educational path for our students.
Our journey toward educational excellence is beginning to take shape with our initial steps in implementing the Multi-Tiered Support System (MTSS) and Professional Learning Communities (PLC) across the district. This semester marked the start of a more data-driven approach, as our staff engaged in analyzing key data sources such as Star Universal Screening, MCAS scores, Panorama assessments, and classroom performances. The insights gained from this analysis are instrumental in guiding our early efforts to adapt instruction and identify specific areas for student development. While we are in the early stages of fully integrating MTSS and PLC processes, these early efforts are crucial in laying the foundation for a more responsive and effective educational framework.
In line with these goals, MTSS utilizes regular data reviews to refine our teaching strategies, ensuring we meet the diverse needs of our students. We also capitalize on our WINN (What I Need Now) time to offer personalized instruction and practice in key areas. These efforts have enabled us to set targeted goals for each grade level. For example, our sixth grade is concentrating on infringing and developing higher-level thinking skills. The seventh grade is taking a direct approach to teaching critical thinking and perseverance through Accountable Talk. Complementing this, the eighth grade is also emphasizing these skills, with a specific focus on reading comprehension activities. By integrating critical thinking and perseverance into reading exercises, the eighth grade aims to enhance students' understanding and engagement with the text, fostering a deeper learning experience.
Central to our educational strategy in mathematics is the ongoing support from Karen Boisvert, our math coach. Karen's role extends beyond guiding teachers through the ‘Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics' book study. She is also instrumental in helping our math teachers refine their planning, utilizing a variety of core resources beyond the standard math texts. This approach is crucial in enhancing our math curriculum. Additionally, Karen facilitates classroom visits among teachers, allowing them to share and identify high-impact teaching practices. Together, these efforts represent a significant step toward evolving our instructional methods, aligning them more closely with the essential skills our students need for success.
Looking ahead, we're excited to see our students grow and thrive thanks to these targeted efforts. We're committed to keeping you informed and involved every step of the way.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in your child’s education.
Sincerely,
Sean O’Shea
