CELEBRATIONS!
Great things are happening at WCS!
Our Woolwich WOW tickets are adding up and we are well on our way to the first milestone reward: hot cocoa and cookies at lunch for earning 150 tickets as a school! Students can earn Wow tickets for "Walking the Woolwich Way" at school and doing things to help our school community. Ask your student if they have ever received a ticket, and if so, what they did to earn one!
FILL BILL!
Once again we are hosting the "Fill Bill" food drive to benefit the Bath Area Food Bank! This organization does so much for our community and we are grateful for the opportunity to give back! Staff and students are bringing in non-perishable food and dropping it off in Bill, the dinghy, located in the WCS lobby. All food will be donated to the BAFB and the WCS Backpack Program over Winter Break!
WREATH PICK UP
Pre-ordered wreaths will be ready for pick up on Monday, 12/5 between 3:15pm & 5:30pm at the front office of the school. Sales are closed and no addition wreaths are being sold at this time.
LOCK DOWN DRILL 12/12
We will be holding this year's first school-wide lock down drill on Monday, 12/12 at 10:20 am. This is part of our annual required safety drill schedule, and it is our goal for students and staff to understand and practice what to do during an emergency situation. We hope everyone will treat this drill with the same calm and respect that we see during fire drills.
PTA NEWS
HEALTHY HIGHLIGHTS
A warm greeting on this cold December day! A few reminders as we head into the winter months:
- Please remember that we are a "NUT SAFE SCHOOL". This means no nuts or nut products like peanut butter sent into school with your child. We have many students who have severe allergies, and this reminder is worth repeating.
- Vision and hearing screening should be completed by the end of next week, and anyone who needs to be checked by a doctor will get a notice in the mail. Please have the note filled out by the doctor and send it back to me for their records.
- Lastly, as we fill "Bill" our boat I say thank you for all the items that are sent in. It is our desire to have this be a learning tool for students. I am hoping you will have conversations with your child about how different families meet needs like food and housing, and what each of us can do to play a positive role in our community! Thank you for continuing to send in non perishable food to FILL BILL. ~Roberta Sherwood, R.N., BSN, M.Ed
SCHOOL PICTURES HAVE GONE HOME!
LUNCH WITH SENATOR VITELLI!
On Friday afternoon we hosted Senator Eloise Vitelli in the WCS Cafeteria. Senator Vitelli is working at the state level to find solutions for funding of school lunch programs. School lunch has become free for all students as we have made our way through the pandemic. School lunch forms are still being required but not many are getting completed and turned in. These forms have been the baseline of State and Federal funding for years. A disconnect is looming and Senator Vitelli is trying to get first hand information by visiting local schools and talking with folks who see this program in action each day. We were pleased to have her visit WCS on Friday.
SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT
The weather is finally cold and we are asking parents to send their students in wearing hats, coats, jackets and mittens! We will be outside for recess and exercise most days and want to be sure that everyone stays warm all day long.
