SISD Weekly Update
Week of April 27, 2020
Superintendent's Update
During our Board of Trustees meeting last week, we reviewed our online learning platform. We continue to be impressed with the commitment of our teachers and the willingness of our families to jump in and support students. Participation numbers for SISD students are looking strong with teachers connecting with over 90% of students.
Keep up the great work. This is a valuable educational opportunity for students. Beyond the lesson plans, students are learning how to be resilient and adaptable during these unique circumstances.
Pre-K & Kindergarten Round-Up
Pre-K and Kindergarten round-up typically occur during this time of year. We are working on an alternative to our traditional registration and will keep you updated on the details. Our Snyder Primary School Principals will host a Q&A on Facebook live Tuesday, April 28th, at noon. If you can't make the broadcast, it will be available for replay on our Facebook page and our website. For families who are interested in enrolling their incoming Kindergarten students in the Dual-Language Program, meeting dates are Monday, May 4th at 6:30 pm, Wednesday, May 13th at 1:00 pm, and Thursday, May 21st at 6:30 pm. Watch our website and social media pages for virtual meeting login instructions.
Junior High Elective Selection
Elective forms are now available for current 5th, 6th, and 7th graders who will attend Snyder Junior High next year. This form needs to be completed by May 8, 2020, or your electives may be chosen for you.
Incoming High School Students - P-Tech Applications
Incoming High School students, if you have not completed your PTECH application for WTC dual-credit courses, it is crucial that you complete this task soon. Please email jrosas@snyderisd.net or spinkerton@snyderisd.net for guidance.
Graduation
On Friday, we announced alternate plans for the 2020 graduation ceremony. We have discussed these alternatives with city and county authorities to ensure compliance with local and state orders. Even more vital is ensuring the health and safety of our community. Worldwide, schools are developing plans to honor their graduates. We have researched plans from other schools and received many ideas from you. We know none of this is ideal, but we are working to make this a special day despite the circumstances.
The ceremony will occur May 22, 2020. Each senior will ride individually (not with other classmates) in a truck or convertible, and spectators may cheer for graduates along the parade route. Weather and government orders permitting, students will be awarded their diploma and will walk the stage at a designated location along the parade route. A photographer will be present to take photos, and we will broadcast the event live. We are making plans to make this event special, including Valedictorian and Salutatorian speeches, singing the Alma Mater, and the playing of Pomp and Circumstance. This week, the senior class is nominating the faculty presenter, the senior class song, the class flower, and the class motto. I will release more details in the coming days.
Thank you for all you are doing to support your children, the community, and Snyder ISD.
Sincerely,
Eddie Bland, Ed.D.
