Happy New Year!
This edition features two of the exciting and engaging projects happening our classrooms, with even more features to come. You will also find some important information regarding registration for the Winter 2 Sports season. We want to continually increase our participation in extracurriculars, as it is a fantastic way to be involved in the school community. MMS is hosting an indoor track team for the first time, so encourage your student to check it out.
As we head into the colder months of the school year, a reminder that MMS students go for a brief walk in the middle of the school day with their teams. Please be sure to send students to school with cold weather gear to stay warm on these brief movement breaks outdoors. It is hard to believe that we have reached the halfway point in the school year, and as always, we appreciate your partnership and support.
Best,
Mrs. Grantham, Principal
Mrs. Troiano, Assistant Principal

8th Grade Science - Penguin Tiny House Project
8th grade science students are designing tiny houses to protect penguins from the blazing sun! Their task is to create a tiny house that will keep their penguins (cubes of ice) alive (frozen) for as long as possible by reducing the amount of thermal energy exchange between the outside of their house and the inside of their house. Below are some photos from Team Penobscot, Mr. Pope's science classes!
Students are collecting temperature data throughout the day and checking to see how their penguins are doing inside their homes.
Check out our Grade 6 Art Gallery - Endangered Species String Art
Our sixth grade art students studied endangered species from Maine and around the world. We learned techniques for drawing realistically and then added various materials to complete a mixed-media project.
