Classroom News
First Grade: Hello from First Grade! Next week, we’ll be continuing with informational texts and focusing on owls. In math, we’ll be using a ten to add/subtract. Just a reminder that Parent/Teacher Conferences are Wednesday and Thursday. If you have not signed up with your child’s teacher for a conference, please do so.
Second Grade: Greetings from Second Grade! As a reminder all permission slips for our upcoming field trip to the NC Zoo in Asheboro are due by Tuesday next week. All money is due by Friday, November 17th. The cost for students is $20. Any parent/guardian who plans to attend the trip must complete the MCS Volunteer Background Check. If you have not returned your parent/teacher conference sign up sheet, please do so as soon as possible. Next week we will use informational text to describe the connection between historical events. We'll continue working on adding two-digit numbers. Please continue to read for a least 20 minutes each night, learn the words on the most common words list, and complete homework daily homework assignments.
Exceptional Children:
The students will learn about the letter Gg through the Letterland character Golden Girl. In math the students will combine groups up to five. We will also read Turkey Trouble and Turkey in Disguise!
Resource:
Music: Students will sing “work songs” and continue to learn about veterans and the jobs which are held by our military personnel. Steady beat and rhythm reading are important concepts to master during the fall semester. Please look at the Music Google Classroom for extra resources. This week there is an amazing video of a seven-year old girl singing “The National Anthem”. Flag etiquette has been explained during music class. Veterans, you are appreciated. In the music classroom, we discuss your sacrifices and willingness to protect America.
Library: Thank you for participating in the WPS Book Fair this week. We have enjoyed picking some stories from the book fair to read during library class. Some titles include: “The Sour Grape” “The Smart Cookie” “Itty-Bitty Kitty Corn” “ Howard the Average Gecko” “I’m Hungry! Tengo Hambre!” “Roxie Loves Adventure” “I’m Not Scared, YOU’re Scared!” “There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Dragon”. Our Book Fair helps add to our library book collection and facility. Thanks again for supporting our school and students!

Also, we have purchased some wonderful books from the Book Fair that focuses on social/emotional issues. If you would like to check one out for your class, please stop by and let me know.
From the Nurses Desk
Handwashing is an easy, cheap, and effective way to prevent the spread of germs and keep kids and adults healthy. When your family is healthy, you don’t have to worry about missing school, work, or other activities.
Tiger Reminders
- Parents, please remember to update the school when your telephone number changes. It is important that we are able to reach you in the event of a student emergency or when your child is not feeling well.
- If your child arrives to school after 7:55 you have to escort them in the building and signed them in. You can not just pull up and drop them at the breezeway after 7:55.
