Updated Information
Dear Oakwood families,
As you know, due to the Covid-19 pandemic Governor Whitmer has closed the schools for face to face learning for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. She did leave a little wiggle room to possibly reopen if there is a change in the progression of this pandemic and a lifting of the stay at home order, but only time will tell how that will play out. At this time we are planning for a distance learning model for our students. With that in mind, we have some updates and reminders to share with all our families.
There will not be an optional learning opportunities calendar this week as there was for the first two weeks of this school closure. Instead, administrators and teachers will engage in professional learning and collaborating to prepare to implement our distance learning model. Please read Dr. Outlaw’s most recent communication to families for detailed information about the governor’s order and the schedule for this upcoming week, April 6-10.
Our intention is to kick-off distance learning instruction on Monday, April 13. This date is tentative, pending Oakland Schools’ approval of our continuity of learning plan as mandated in the governor’s order.
Technology deployment for those in need of devices will start Monday, April 6. If you find that you need a device for your child, you will find the link to complete a brief survey form within Dr. Outlaw’s letter to families, linked above.
The 5th grade Mackinac trip is still on hold. We will touch base with the travel company again on April 15th to determine our next steps.
We are heartbroken to announce that our school play, Beauty and the Beast, will have to be canceled this year. With all of the missed rehearsals, it will not be possible to perform the play even if school does resume this school year. Ms. Schantz will reach out to families at some point with more information.
This pandemic is a strain on all of us at varying levels. Please check out this Mental Health Support document that can connect you with resources if you or someone in your family needs support.
Positivity Project (P2)
HUMOR
People who have humor as a dominant character trait find something to laugh about in ALL situations. While most of the events happening around us these days are serious and even grave, it is a good thing to find the lighthearted, playful opportunities to bring levity to the situation. Laughter is proven to have a positive impact on our physical well-being. Aren't we lucky to have kids in our lives to bring humor and laughter as they so naturally do?
I encourage you to find something to bring some giggles into your lives this week as we learn about the power of positivity and humor.
