Welcome Back to the Library!

Welcome back to another exciting year in the library! For those new to Woodlawn Academy, let me introduce myself. My name is Nyree Cavazos and I will be your child's Digital Teacher Librarian. This will be my 30th year in education which includes 18 years as a teacher and 11 years as a librarian all completed in SAISD. I'm very excited to share my passion of literacy, Makerspace, and technology with all our students and staff. In doing so, I strive to guide each patron to become a critical thinker, enthusiastic reader, skillful researcher, and ethical user of information. A monthly library newsletter will be sent to all to highlight what is happening in our Eagle Library. Happy Reading,

Bibliotech

Bibliotech is the Bexar County Digital Library. It contains, but is not limited to, eBooks, audiobooks, databases, language lessons, and digital tool lessons. Students & staff can sign up for a San Antonio BiblioTech card : Bexar Bibliotech Registration


BiblioTech: Request a Class Set of Library Cards - Library cards maintained by the teacher. Best utilized if students are using public devices in class.

A Library Card is Elemental! Library Card Sign-up Month 2023

Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the American Library Association and libraries unite in a national effort to ensure every child signs-up for their own library card. Throughout the school year, public librarians and library staff will assist parents and caregivers with saving hundreds of dollars on educational resources and services for students. From free access to STEAM programs/activities, educational apps, in-person and virtual homework help, technology workshops to the expertise of librarians, a library card is one of the most cost-effective back-to-school supplies available.

Register for a library card and have access to eBooks, audiobooks, databases, free homework help as well as other resources. Amelia Bedelia Series by Peggy Parish

The Amelia Bedelia series encourage critical thinking skills. These silly books require students to really think about the ways we use words and what they mean. Check out the Amelia Bedelia collection in the Eagle library.

Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein

Reading poetry books require thought and interpretation. Our library offers a variety of poem books. Where the sidewalk Ends is always an excellent choice.

What Do You Do with a Problem? by Kobi Yamada

This is an excellent book about thinking and using problem solving skills. Students will love this very relatable tale. Check out this books from our Eagle library.

The Girl Who Never Made Mistakes by Mark Pett & Gary Rubinstein

This is great illustration of how perfectionism can be debilitating and that we absolutely can use mistakes positively for our own growth. Not to mention NOT comparing ourselves to others’ expectations. If you’re looking for growth mindset, this book covers it!

This is a delightful rhyming picture book for all ages! It is about Gerald the giraffe, who is laughed out of the the Jungle Dance. But when Gerald meets a violin-playing cricket, his attitude is changed and his world too

Going Places by Peter and Paul Reynolds

It’s time for this year’s Going Places contest! Finally. Time to build a go-cart, race it—and win. Each kid grabs an identical kit, and scrambles to build. Everyone but Maya. She sure doesn’t seem to be in a hurry...and that sure doesn’t look like anybody else’s go-cart! But who said it had to be a go-cart? And who said there’s only one way to cross the finish line? Pam Muñoz Ryan eloquently portrays the Mexican workers' plight in this abundant and passionate novel that gives voice to those who have historically been denied one.

Frida Kahlo and her Animalitos, by Monica Brown and John Parra

This story sheds light on Frida’s beloved — and unusual — pets, including a monkey, parrot, fawn and even an eagle. For animal-loving kids, this is a terrific read.

Gaby, Perdida y Encontrada by Angela Cervantes

Gaby Ramirez Howard’s mother was recently deported to Honduras. Gaby finds comfort in the animals she cares for at the local animal shelter. Her volunteer job is to write adoption ads to help cats and dogs find their “forever home.” Gaby desperately wants to help her favorite shelter cat, Feather, find a home. She connects with Feather because Gaby herself is having a hard time finding a place that feels like home.
