ISASP Testing in Grades 3-5
As I have shared in previous updates, Valerius will be giving this assessment during the second week of the testing window. Our schedule is below.
Snacks will be provided to students on testing days by PTO.
Some helpful tips for families the week of testing include:
* be sure to go to bed at a reasonable time to get good sleep
* eat a good breakfast before coming to school. Breakfast is also available every day at Valerius and is free through the end of the year
* talk with your child about taking their time and doing their best.
We appreciate your partnership at home to help your students do their very best!
REGISTERING for the 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR
Register Today! Student Registration For The 2021-22 School Year
School registration for the 2021–2022 school year is underway! Families with students in kindergarten through 11th grade currently enrolled in the district received an email mid-March with instructions for online registration. For families without email, a letter will be mailed to you in April with instructions for registering your student(s). Once the email/letter has been received, families are welcome to register their student(s) through the online registration process. Ideally, we’d like to have all students registered for the 2021-22 school year by June 4.

JOY IN THE JOURNEY
Lunch Reward System
Myles and Avery sat with me and came up with the idea that each day in lunch every grade level could earn two points. After the grade level has earned twenty points they can pick from a prize menu for a reward. Items on the menu include: watch a cartoon during lunch, listen to a book during lunch, dance party with Mrs. Cole at the end of the day, and extra recess.
On Wednesday, I taught this to all of our students. We talked through what the expectations are and how to earn 2 points every day. We also talked about listening and respecting the adults in the lunchroom who are there to help remind them of the expectations and to keep them safe.
We look forward to celebrating their great work in the lunchroom over the next 8 weeks!

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL UPDATE
Urbandale CSD Families and Staff,
I’d like to provide an update regarding the last day of school for the 2020-21 school year. During the March 29 School Board meeting, the Board approved the following plan:
- All schools, except Rolling Green, will make up two days of school at the end of the school year which will make the last day of school Friday, June 4 (original last day was Wednesday, June 2). This accounts for making up two of the three snow days we missed this winter.
- The last day for certified employees will be Tuesday, June 8 (for all schools except Rolling Green).
- The last day of school for Rolling Green will not change; the last day is Friday, June 11. This is also the last day for Rolling Green staff. (Note: Rolling Green will be making up time during their previously scheduled snow make-up days.)
Thank you for your flexibility and understanding with these changes in our school year calendar.
