Caravel CSG Fundraiser!
- The CSG Fall Fundraiser has now started and it is 100% online this year. The fundraiser will end Tuesday September 22. The CSG would like to encourage the Caravel community to purchase items to help fund our upcoming CSG events that we have planned for the year. This is a great opportunity to get started on some early Christmas shopping as orders are normally delivered around the Thanksgiving holiday.

Caravel ReStart Plan Updates
Update
Students who are traveling out of the country or to designated "hot spots" must quarantine for 14 days before returning to school. These students will be added to our remote learning platform during this time.
Additional Guidance regarding Covid-19 Return to School from the Delaware Department of Education
Caravel Academy has assigned Lead Personnel that will serve as liaisons to Delaware Division of Public Health in the event of a positive Covid-19 case.
Dr. Jerry Lamey will serve as Caravel Academy Lead Administrator.
Barbara Anne Bruno will serve as the School Lead Nurse.
If you suspect that your child may have come in contact with a covid-19 positive person, or if you or a family member have tested positive for Covid-19, notify our Covid-19 Lead Nurse Barbara Anne Bruno at Caravel Academy (bbruno@caravel.org).
“What should I do if I have interacted with a person with confirmed Covid-19?”If you are well and exhibiting NO symptoms but did have close contact (were within 6 feet for more than 10 minutes) with the individual, DPH recommends that you stay home for 14 days, being careful to keep distance from your family members.
The Caravel Covid Team’s priority is to keep the Caravel Community as safe and healthy as possible. Please refrain from sending your child to school if they develop any of the symptoms listed on the Covid-19 Health Assessment Self Screening Tool.
- All students are required to conduct a self screening assessment each morning before school. Please use the following link to access the screening tool. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/downloads/community/schools-childcare/Daily-Home-Screening-for-Students-Checklist-ACTIVE-rev5A.pdf
- The Student Self Screening Tool can also be found on Renweb.
In-Person/Remote Learning
- Families wishing to switch between remote or in person learning must email caactionplan@caravel.org and receive approval before making a change. Please allow at least a week's notice if switching back to in person. Remote learning can typically be approved very quickly.

Announcements
Change in Middle School and Upper School Calendar:
September 25, 2020 has now been designated as a Professional Learning Day for Middle School and Upper School teachers. This is a change in our published school calendar. This Professional Learning day will focus on staff development related to remote learning.
As a result of this additional Professional Learning Day, there will be no school for Middle and Upper School students. This includes our remote learning students.
The Lower School and EEC will still be in session on this day.
In addition, Friday, October 9, 2020 is already scheduled on our school calendar as a professional development day for staff. There will be no school for students in all divisions, EEC through upper school, on this day.
- Remote students who are going to be absent or late to school should provide absent/tardy notes to sringler@caravel.org just as they would for in person learning. It is also a good idea for all students to give their teachers notice of any planned absence.
Change in detention protocol...
In an effort to reduce the number of students gathering in the school beyond regular school hours, detention hall will be held once per week, on Wednesdays, until further notice. We have five detention proctors, and students will serve their detentions in the US Library on the Wednesday that follows the date of issue. Once COVID restrictions are lessened, we will resume the usual five-day per week detention hall. Remember: dress code detentions are ½ hour (3:15 - 3:45) and all other detentions are one hour (3:15 - 4:15).
- College Counseling - Seniors received timelines for college applications and they also received guidelines on completing college applications via email on Thursday. Seniors will start meeting with Mr. Moxley by appointment on Monday to discuss their college plans. Please encourage your seniors to pay attention to the timeline.
- PSAT Testing - PSAT and PSAT/NMSQT Testing for 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th graders has been moved from the October date to Tuesday January 26th.
- A reminder to seniors who choose to eat lunch outside. It is important that we follow social distancing protocol when eating at the picnic tables. Only three students are permitted at each table, and no students should be sitting on the bleachers.
- Early Drop Off and Before Care are separated by division. EEC is in the Blue Room; Lower School is in the Lower School Library; and Middle and High School is in the Cafeteria.
MIDDLE SCHOOL MORNING CARE PROCEDURES:
7:00 - 7:50 Before Care Drop-Off Cafeteria
At 7:50 students will be dismissed to their homeroom.
MIDDLE SCHOOL EXTENDED CARE PROCEDURES:
3:00 - 6:00 Middle School Extended Care
Students will go directly to the cafeteria.
Parents may pick up at the exterior door to the cafeteria.
Students will be required to wear masks at all times.
- A reminder to all parents and students: Caravel Academy does not permit the use of "food delivery" services. Please do not have food delivered to school through one of these delivery vendors.
- Caravel Academy is currently looking for substitutes. If you are interested in being added to our sub list, please email tdorazio@caravel.org to get more information about steps needing to be completed to be a part of our wonderful team.
Caravel Face Masks are Available!
(Please note the masks are approved to be worn during the school day, but are being offered as a fundraiser.)
