Corona High School - A Tradition of Excellence Since 1896
IMPORTANT SAFETY UPDATE FROM CNUSD
If you have any questions regarding campus safety, please feel free to always contact any member of our administrative team.
Warmest Greetings, Panther Families
We have less than one week remaining in the first semester; the last day of school will be Thursday, December 20th. Because we have to administer finals, we will have three minimum days and one regular day. On Monday we will be following our regular bell schedule (7:40 am to 2:44 pm), however, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday will all be minimum days (please see flyer below). Although Friday, December 21st is a work day for staff (our offices will remain open), this is a non-student attendance day.
On behalf of the Corona High School staff, I'd like to wish you a happy holiday season and a fantastic start to 2019. Now here's your Panther Prowl for December 14th...the final edition of 2018. The next edition will be released on January 18, 2019. RAWR!
Respectfully,
Antonio Gonzalez, Ed.D.
Proud Principal

Jose Niño Tennis Courts
It gives me great pleasure to announce that he CNUSD Board of Education recently approved our proposal to officially rename our tennis courts in honor of long-time Corona High School Teacher and tennis coach, Mr. Jose Niño. Mr. Niño first stepped onto our campus in 1970 as a Spanish teacher and eventually began teaching photography. In the summer of 2018, right before starting his 48th year teaching at Corona, he retired to take care of his wife. There have been countless individuals (not just students) who have been positively influenced by Mr. Niño's genuine love and care and below are some articles written in his honor that capture only a glimpse of his impact. We are in the midst of planning an official naming ceremony later in 2019 pending Mr. Niño's availability. As details are finalized, I will be sure to share them with our community.
NJROTC
- Congratulations to our Color Guard Drill Teams for winning 3 trophies last Saturday at the Chaparral Color Guard Meet. Way to go, cadets!
- On Saturday, December 15th NJROTC will participate in a Brain Brawl competition held at Troy High School in Fullerton. This is a Jeopardy-style competition with questions ranging from military, U.S. history, science, geography, sports, current events, NJROTC, and Language Arts. Our senior leadership will partake as they face off against 20 other ROTC units from throughout Southern California.
- NJROTC joined the Settlement House and worked 2 nights helping out with sorting canned goods and for the less fortunate. Each year our cadets work hard in making a difference within our community. This is a core value of NJROTC: giving back is a must!
- Adopt-a-Family has been a NJROTC tradition for the past 18 years. This year we have chosen 3 families to provide food and other items of need.
- Our cadets visited Brookdale Retirement Home in Corona to spend quality time with the elderly residents while sharing stories, giving holiday cheer, and bringing a smile to our senior citizens during the holidays.
- We would like to thank everyone who has supported NJROTC with their generous donations throughout the year. Our cadets benefit greatly when we work together and our program would not be nearly as strong as it is without your support.

AVID Corner
- Earlier in the week, AVID students have been preparing to participate in the RIMS AVID Write-off. This year's topic addresses the pros and cons to free college.
- We were thrilled to have one of our notable Corona graduates (Class of 2013) and former AVID students, Natalie Reyes, come and speak to some of our current AVID students. She just earned her BA (double major) and masters degree from the University of Southern California (USC) in just 5 years! Her guest appearance was a way to help motivate our students and keeping them focused on the AVID mission. Way to go, Natalie!

CA Healthy Kids Survey
The Annual California Healthy Kids Survey will be administered in 9th and 11th grade English Language Arts (ELA) classes within the coming weeks. A copy of the survey is available in the front office for review. Your child should have brought home the passive consent form 2 weeks ago. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's participation in the survey, please contact Mrs. Bogner at kbogner@cnusd.k12.ca.us or your child's ELA teacher.
- Passive Consent--Permission Request Regarding Health Survey–High School
Dear Parent or Guardian,
We are requesting your permission for your child to be a part of our school’s California Healthy Kids Survey sponsored by the California Department of Education. This important survey will help provide data to improve the school learning environment, academic achievement, and the health and well-being of our youth. It includes questions about drug abuse, safety and violence, risk of depression and suicide, and sexual orientation.
Student participation is voluntary and anonymous. Your child does not have to take the survey. No names or any other identifying information is connected to the answers except for the name of the school.
Student participation requires your permission. We hope you will encourage participation so that your child’s opinion and knowledge can be part of the information gleaned from the survey. If you do not want your child to complete the survey, you must notify the school by returning the “withdrawal form” that was sent home.
