Jensen J-Hawk Weekly

Jensen Elementary students and staff are off to a great start! This year at Jensen we are learning about using our superpowers to be everyday HEROES. Showing respect, being responsible, safe, kind, and learners are the superpowers we are looking for!

In the first two days of school all students attended a kick off assembly where they met our superheroes BELIEVE, LEAD, and ENCOURAGE, who will be teaching us all about our superpowers throughout the year. That same day, all students in the school learned the same rules/expectations in the hallways, bathrooms, playground, lunchroom, and arrival/dismissal time.

Now, we are positively reinforcing these using leadership tickets. As students do the right thing they can receive leadership tickets. Teachers are counting the number of leadership tickets their classrooms collect throughout the week and we are working on earning 1,000 tickets as a school!

Additionally, each week we will randomly draw student names and those students will receive a Jensen Superhero bracelet and certificate to bring home. A picture of our first week of winners is below.

We are super excited to recognize, reinforce, and nurture positive behaviors in our students at Jensen.

A few notes about parent drop off and pick up:

1) If you plan on getting out of your car you need to park in a parking spot in our parking lot. Please do not pull up in the pick up line and then get out of your car.

2) Please DO NOT park in the bus lane at the end of the day. The bus arrives between 3:35-3:40 and cannot get pulled in when there are parents parked in their lane.

3) In the morning and after school we will now be asking parents to drop kids off at the doors and say goodbye and wait for them outside the doors for pick up. We do this for two reasons. #1- it builds independence in our students to let them walk to the classroom. We have a lot of smiling teachers in the halls ensuring all students get where they need to be. #2- It is much safer for us to know who is in the building. Thanks for helping us build independence and create a safe environment for all Jensen students!

Sept. 12th-- LATE START-- school begins at 10am

Sept. 13th- Jensen Night at GET AIR from 6-8pm

Sept. 17th-21st-- HOMECOMING WEEK (dress up days below)

WEDNESDAY- J-Hawk Mile- sign up on the district website

THURSDAY- Students are invited to walk in the parade this night and stay for the party in the High School parking lot

FRIDAY- HOMECOMING football game at 7PM.

Sept. 24th- PTO from 6pm-7:30pm

Sept. 26th- LATE START-- school begins at 10am

"Find the J-Hawk”- Sponsored by the UHS Alumni Association.
The businesses listed below each have cards to play the game. If a business runs out of cards, the Urbandale Chamber Office has additional cards. Each business will have a J-Hawk Mascot cutout as pictured below in their business. When you find it have the business stamp your card and proceed to the next business. You can do just a few businesses and turn in your card for a prize, but to win a special prize from one of the businesses listed below, you need to visit all 15 businesses. Turn in your card at the Alumni table/booth at the Street Party on Thursday evening, Sept. 20th after the parade. Winners will be drawn and then called to be notified that you have won.
