Where are my Seesaw-using friends?
BLOGS ARE THE SOLUTION--- when you are signed into your class, go to the settings wrench in the top right and scroll down to CLASS BLOG and toggle on to enable it. You will be stepped through creating the weblink and adding a password (please do this). You can share the link and password with families, and students can access it in their tabs by journal and activities.
After you have set up the blog, go back into settings and find more options, like "allow students to post to the blog" (you can turn that off) or "add a header image".
All you do to add to the blog is tap the blue world icon beneath any post you want to share to the blog. Then remind students to visit it and comment! The perfect solution!
And if you are needing help adding videos in Seesaw--- I made a screencastify video to look at the options. Want to see my think aloud video? Here it is--- uploading videos to Seesaw for students.
Go forth and Seesaw on, my friends!

Clever
- Clever sign in--- it is nice that kids can sign in with their 300#, but just to make sure you are aware--- that isn't going to sign them into Google tools. If it is in the "Instant Login" section, they can go right there, yes... except for the Google buttons. And if it is in SHORTCUTS, they will still need to sign in
- Google Sign in-- this is when they sign in with their @hsdschools.org account and the Google buttons will work without needing to sign in again.
- Teacher Pages--- you do have the option to add buttons on your teacher page if you would like. Clever has help pages for more information and tips (Like the What are Teacher Pages? page, or How Do I Add an App? page) but please read below as a reminder to be intentional about the things you add.
Remember, you can ALWAYS use a student account and sign in to see how things work OR to test if students tell you something isn't working as expected. You can see what is going on.
THIS IS IMPORTANT---
Student privacy matters (like, it legally matters because it is CA law). We can NOT have students create accounts on websites or apps when the privacy policy isn't compliant with the law. Please PLEASE reach out to me before starting something new and creating student accounts or entering student data into a service. It is convenient when they can use the Google button, but that doesn't make it okay for them to do it. FOR EXAMPLE--- Quizizz is awesome, and students can take your quizzes, but they can't create accounts to make their own quizzes.
Another thing to consider--- this may not be the best time to start a bunch of new things with your students. We have been very intentional about sharing a select group of tools with you. Ones that will work for all grades and any content, as much as possible. We are hoping for some consistency for students, and also for parents, so they don't have to learn an excessive amount of new things, too. Just something to keep in mind.

Zoom-tastic news!
I know, this may look like a lot to read. If you use Zoom (or want to) please read it. If you are a happy "Meet"er, you can keep scrolling.
Many of you know we have been recommending use of Google Meet for online video conferencing. We know some people have opted to use Zoom instead, and we have also shared that we have been working to get Zoom integrated with Clever for our students to use.
Here is the bottom line--- our student privacy and security is very important to us.
Big news--- the Zoom/Clever integration is complete (yes it has taken awhile) and I encourage you to sign into Clever, find the ZOOM button at the bottom and transition your account (if you already have one) to the education account. This has two benefits (1) you get some perks, like longer session times and (2) we can set some privacy settings, like the waiting room, designed to protect our students so you don't have to worry about it.
There are a lot, like A LOT of settings options in the Zoom settings and we did our best to allow you to decide as many as possible. Don't like that student can annotate on their screens, you can probably turn it off in settings. Want participants to be able to share their screen? We may have the default off, but you can change it to on if you want. See what I mean? IF there is something you feel strongly about and we have set the other way, drop me an email. I'm happy to discuss--- this is new territory here!
So, if you have been "Meet"ing, carry on--there is NO REASON to change what is working.
If you have been "Zoom"ing, please use the district education account, accessible through Clever, from now on. We love Meet, and you love options, so here is where we can all be happy! We love protecting our students just like you, so win win!

Getting Student information from Q
it might be helpful to get student contact info etc.
In Q, go to MENU---ENROLLMENT---REPORTS---STUDENT DIRECTORY
Check the options you want to see, and you can CREATE the report to get one view, or you can EXPORT the report to get a spreadsheet you can manipulate.
Either way, the data is right there for you. Might be helpful if you find you keep logging into Q everytime you need a phone number.
As always, please be a protector of student information. Watch where you leave print outs and store/share digital files.

Some Tech Tips
Accounts can be tricky!
If you are not sure how you or your students sign into something, click the button below and take a look. Might help clarify things for you.
Please refer people to the Distance Learning Help Desk
As a reminder, the proxy popups are gone in many many cases, but if they come up again, thank you for not panicking, but just reminding them to choose NOT NOW, or restart the device.
Speaking of RESTARTING

Did you play? It's not too late...
Leave a message, listen to messages--- you will leave feeling encouraged and uplifted. We are a great Hueneme family doing great things in great ways!
I want to make sure you don't miss this--
(1) if you haven't used Flipgrid before go to Mission Control and look in BLAST OFF--- PD for DL (click here--> let me make it easy for you) and find Flipgrid on the page. Look through the slides or watch a video and you will see how you can get started with your students.
(2) if you HAVE used Flipgrid, then I know you love it like I do. Did you see their May announcements? Two cool things I want to highlight... NEW CAMERA FEATURES like whiteboard and blackboard so they can draw their thinking, and stop motion whaaat? (click that link to see a quick video) and I can't choose a second favorite--- so, whichever one of the other announcements is your favorite--- there are 6 of them. Click Here to see May announcement. Feedback visibility is totally in my top 3!

Well done! Inspiring, encouraging, thriving. It's what we do!

** If your students use iPads, this section is for YOU! **
WONDERFUL WONDERS
Here are some steps that might help if students are having trouble with ipads and Wonders
sign into Clever with Google account
- tap the McGraw Hill/Wonders button
- this opens a Safari webpage, but if you look on the right, it says "ConnectEd Mobile App" with an OPEN button.
- Choose that. OPEN the mobile app.
- Give it a second and the app will automatically sign the student in.
- From this point on, the student can go directly to the ConnectEd app because it is signed in as them.
Note: You can assign work in the Wonders app, and you can use the materials there to make quick SCREENCASTIFY videos, too. Student can turn in work in the Wonders app.
You can create an assignment in Google Classroom to tell them to go into the Wonders app and do the work, but they CAN'T turn the Wonders work in through Google Classroom. Some people create an announcement to tell students to go to Wonders, others create an assignment and students select "mark as done" after they turn it in through the Wonders app. Either works, do what makes the most sense for you and your students.
PEARSON MATH
- Students DON'T use Clever for this one, thestudents have to use the school link on the website (this isn't a Clever one). After they do this once and go to the app, they can go straight to the app and it will keep them logged in.
- Watch the Seesaw Colla-o-rama for Math to get some ideas for using online curriculum with Screencastify and Seesaw. (they start at about 20:00) The ideas can work in Google Classroom, too.
EMAIL ON AN IPAD
- for many of you, email with students is a new thing. We didn't use it in the classroom, but it is sure a lifesaver now! ON THE iPad, the blue mail app won't work. But Gmail is in Self Service. So, encourage families to install GMail from Self Service and sign in with their google account there.
