Football Field Preparations
It is no easy task to prepare a football field for competition. Richard Lattin has been doing it for years for LHS. The field is maintained throughout the year with various chemical applications to prevent weeds and unwanted grasses and to stimulate growth. David Viramontez mows the game field two times per week from March through October to keep it at the perfect healthy height. The field has plastic markers to assist in laying out the field for marking. Richard spends several hours during the summer finding and marking the plastic markers. Before the first home game, Richard marks the lines and the yard line numbers. This year, Steve Kreis put in hours of trimming and edging to get the perimeter of the football field looking good. Greg Konda and Patti Kreis assisted with the outside areas. Each summer, the summer maintenance crew repairs and paints the stadium and bleachers as needed. Temp-Aire has worked on the sprinkler system. Stewart George is monitoring extra sprinklers on the field to water areas that need extra attention. Jeff Fuss and Greg Konda spent some time trouble-shooting some scoreboard issues. Thanks to everyone who has worked hard to make the field look great!
LHS Cheer Squad
No football game would be complete without a cheer squad. The LHS cheerleaders have practiced and prepared for the football season. They will make their second public appearance of the year at the Lyons at Nickerson football game Friday night. Their first appearance was at the Back-to-School BBQ.
No School Labor Day, Monday, September 4
Labor Day is always the first Monday in September. The federal holiday started in 1894 and is meant to recognize the efforts of the working men and women in the country. It is ironic that the day we set aside to honor labor is a day we take off work. π
Not everyone gets the day off however, the LHS Band will march in the Hoisington Labor Day parade.
