Wow...what a year! I can't believe we are already in our last week of Term 4, with the holidays beginning in only a few short days. 2016 has been an enormously successful year at Banksmeadow Public School and I am very proud of all that we have achieved as a school.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank our community for all of your support throughout the year. The teachers and I are very appreciative of all that you do to help us to educate your children. Thank you to our many volunteers who have assisted in the different programs and events that have occurred in 2016.
I have absolutely loved my time at Banksmeadow Public School and am very sad to be saying goodbye. I will miss the Banksmeadow community, the staff, and especially the students, and hope to bump into many of you at local school events. I hope everyone has a lovely holiday break, and wish you all the very best for the future. Merry Christmas!
Kind regards
Ms N Hoskins
Acting Principal

- Use my time wisely
Changes to Staff in 2017 - Updated
Information regarding changes to staffing in 2017 has been published in the recent newsletters. This information is in regards to Mrs Whittaker, Mr Johnstone, Mrs Jack, Mrs Moffat and Mrs Macdonald.
In addition to these changes, Ms Fahey has decided to take an extended break for the majority of next year. Ms Fahey will return to school for the first six weeks of 2017 before beginning her leave. She plans to tour around the country during this time. We wish Ms Fahey all the best on her travels.
Banksmeadow will also welcome a new teacher, Miss Rose Morgan, to the school in 2017. Miss Morgan was the successful applicant on a merit selection panel that was held recently. She has already been into the school and will be a great addition to the teaching staff next year.
End of Year Activities - REPEAT
As we count down to the holidays, we still have some fun events planned for the students:
* End of Year Concert - Our annual School concert will be held on Tuesday 13th December and will be split into two time slots to allow more room for the audience to be seated in the school hall. There will be a Kindergarten - Year 2 Concert at Midday. All classes in K-2 will be performing, as well as our Support Unit, and Junior and Senior dance groups. There will be a recess break between 1 and 1.20pm so that all these students and their parents who do not have older children may leave the hall area. The next concert will begin at around 1.20pm. All students in Years 3-6, as well as the Guitar groups (Junior, including the Year 2 guitar students, and Senior) and both dance groups will perform in the second concert. At the end of the concert the P&C will be drawing their Christmas raffle winners.
* End of Year Activity Day - Thursday 15th December: all students will participate in a range of fun activities. The students may wear mufti clothes to school on this day.
* Talent Quest and Last day of 2016 - Some students will perform an item for the school to showcase their talents. The talent quest will begin at 9:15am on Friday morning. This will also be the last day of school for all students in 2016. A guard of hoour will be made for the departing Year 6 students from about 2:45pm.
Presentation Day
Thank you to the many families and friends who attended our Presentation Assembly last Friday morning. It was a wonderful celebration of the many achievements that have been made by our students this year. An enormous thank you must go to Mrs Bragg, who organised the assembly and the morning tea. Thank you also to Mr Murphy for creating the photo slideshows.
Text Books for 2017
Selected text books are used in each of the classes at Banksmeadow Public School. Next year, these text books will be for sale on a special "Text Book Day" to be held on Friday 3rd February. On this day, a representative from the company from whom we purchase the books will visit the school. Students will be required to bring their money on that day to purchase their books. Please note that no money will be collected through the office. A note will be sent home this week with further information regarding prices.
Greek Orthodox Scripture - Expression of Interest - REPEAT
Every Thursday afternoon, all students participate in Scripture lessons. We currently offer the following denominations: Catholic, Anglican and Non Scripture classes. The school has been contacted with the request to investigate the possibility of offering Greek Orthodox Scripture in 2017. In order to determine if we will proceed with this request, we are asking for Expressions of Interest from families who may wish for their child to attend if a class were to be made available. Please complete the form below and return it to the office before the end of the term. Alternatively, you may wish to email the school at banksmeado-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au with the relevant details.
World Festival of Magic - Free Tickets - REPEAT
The Lions Club of Bondi has kindly given our school some tickets for the World Festival of Magic to be held at the Hordern Pavilion, Moore Park on Monday 19th December (11am, 1:30pm or 4pm). The tickets are for entry to a 90 minute show that is guaranteed to amuse and astound the whole family. If you would like tickets for your family, please see the school office. Please note that tickets will be given to the first families who request them. Tickets will be limited to immediate family members only.
2017 Enrolments - REPEAT
We are beginning to plan for 2017 classes. If your child will not be returning to Banksmeadow next year, or if you are aware of any families who will be moving into the area and hoping to enrol, could you please let Ms Hoskins know as soon as possible so as to assist with planning.
