PSAT for Juniors
On October 17th and 18th, all juniors will take the digital PSAT on district provided devices. Limited devices means juniors will test over two days, with Last Name A-I on 10/17 and Last Name J-Z on 10/18). This test potentially qualifies them for the National Merit Scholarship Program, as well as prepares them for the new digital SAT which they will take in the spring. Students will be pre-registered by the counselor during homeroom, or on the day of the test. One way to prepare for the PSAT is to utilize Khan Academy’s practice site - https://www.khanacademy.org/sat
Semifinalists for National Merit Scholarship Program
On September 13, officials of National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names of more than 16,000 Semifinalists in the 69th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,140 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.
Corbett High School had four students named Semifinalists: Sophie Bergkvist, Gentry, Isaiah Irving, and Olivia McGrew. Corbett was the only high school east of 205 in Multnomah County that had any students named as Semifinalists.
AP Psychology Students Model Data
Mrs. Davis
Q: What's your favorite season?
A: I love everything about summer. I love hanging out with friends and family, going camping and living without schedules. Summer provides a great opportunity to make lifelong memories with my kids.
Q: Do you have any pets?
A: I have two kids, two beagles and a hedgehog.
Q: When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A: I decided that I wanted to be a teacher when I was in the third grade. Being an older sibling, I enjoyed helping my younger siblings learn to count, read and spell. As I grew, my passion for helping students overcome obstacles increased. Now I am fortunate to be able to help all ages of students throughout the district grow into their best version of themself.
Q: What’s your most-used productivity hack?
A: My best productivity hack is having instrumental music playing in the background while I accomplish tasks. Not sure why, but I always seem to get more done when I have it playing.
Q: Do you play any sports?
A: My favorite sports include softball and snowboarding. I played softball from the ages of 5-17. Then continued to play a couple seasons with an adult league. When it comes to snowboarding, I taught myself to ride when I was 21, and have been hitting the slopes each year since.
SAT For Seniors
On October 11th, all seniors will take the last paper-pencil SAT offered by the College Board. This will be the second time that the class of 2024 has taken the school day SAT. Khan Academy has a practice site for students interested in sharpening their skills - https://www.khanacademy.org/sat.

Volleyball
Volleyball defeated Stevenson 3-1 in an endowment game on Monday. OSAA Endowment matches do not count toward the total number of contests allowed per season, and the funds raised through Endowment Games have a positive effect on Oregon high school activities, both now and in the future. Volleyball also defeated Yamill-Carlton 3-1 on Wednesday night, winning three sets in a row after dropping the first set in a 24-26 nail-biter. Sammi Blume and Emmalia Younker had 10 kills each followed by Taylor Young with 9 kills and 12 digs. Greta Miller had 7 kills for the night and 12 digs.

Cross Country
On Saturday, the Corbett runners did something that rarely happens: Every single runner set a Season or Personal Record. Their running today is a testament to the hard work they’ve been putting into training. "To say I’m impressed is an understatement," Coach Rondema said.
Personal Records at the Oregon City Invitational were set by Ellie, Aiden H, Jesse, Natalie, Flynn, Jack and Asher, and Season Records were set by Olivia, Malena, Joey, Damian, Ethan, Thatcher, Caiden, Matthew, River, Bryce, Logan A, Logan M and Aidan P.
Anna passed on the Corbett Baton this week to Joey. She mentioned his role as a team leader, the phenomenal effort he puts into training, the example he sets, his ceaseless encouragement and his positivity. Coach Rondema echoed those sentiments, saying "Coach Carley and I couldn't agree more with that assessment of Joey."
