How are you really?
October was Mental Health Awareness month. The HS Counseling Center has connected with the Monroe County campaign, "How are you really?". Developed by the Jewish Family Services, in partnership with community resources and a group of Monroe County teens, this program addresses the stigma surrounding mental health and promotes the importance of teens seeking help when struggling with emotions.
"How are you really?" encourages youth to speak with each other about their feelings. The Monroe County student leaders hope thier peers will take full ownership of the idea that feelings are normal and that it is okay to talk about them with someone you trust.
On Monday, Oct 31, the Counseling Center will distribute stickers, keychains, zipper pulls and buttons that ask the question, "How are you really?". We encourage students to: Ask it. Wear it. Share it. The materials reference the site feelingsarenormal.com a student supported website with links to resources students and families can access to learn more about the challenges teens face and the impact these have on mental health.
Please stop in to pick up this "treat" and remember to share your feelings with someone you trust.
