November 2022 Wildcat Newsletter
A message from Principal Sledge
November has started and we have many things to be thankful for! This school year, one of our goals is to achieve building attendance at or above 93%. We have made this a goal because, when a student has great attendance, they are more likely to experience success in the classroom. We have many incentives for our perfect attendance students!! We track our attendance percentages weekly. In recent weeks, our building attendance percentages have been dropping between 87% to 90%. We encourage you to do what you can to make sure your student comes to school on time each day. Of course, if they are not feeling well, keep them home.
November 11th is Veteran’s Day! We would like to thank all the men and women that serve or have served in the armed forces. Your dedication and commitment is truly appreciated. We acknowledge the tremendous sacrifices and bravery you display to make this nation what it is.
Thank you,
Mr. Walter Sledge

Counselor's Corner!
In November, our Social Emotional Learning focus will be on Careers. What type of job would your child like to have when he or she grows up? Are there any jobs that you or another family member do that your child might be interested in? Please spend some time this month allowing your child a chance to interview a family member about their career choice. Our focus in elementary school is to give students an opportunity to explore a variety of careers and develop their strengths and interests.
Below is a career survey, similar to the one that will be used with 4th, 5th and 6th grade students. This is something that you can take with your child separately and have a conversation about what type of career might fit your interests. It is not recommended for our younger students, as the results may be difficult to understand.

Staff Spotlight!
In November, Mr. Gossette (Art teacher) is in the Spotlight!
A self proclaimed uber geek, Mr. Gossette is lending his particular set of crazy towards revitalizing the art program at Snyder Park. He was born in a small village in Ohio called New Bremen. He is the oldest of three children. He grew up loving art, astronomy, reading, and gaming
He spent most of his early adult life as a freelance graphic artist, traveling across the country completing various artistic tasks for numerous clients. Prior to teaching, Mr. Gossette wore many different job hats. He spent time as a photographer. He spent time photographing senior portraits, product photography, weddings, and more. Simultaneously, he worked on designing various websites for local businesses as well as troubleshooting web design issues. Mr. Gossette also spent time as a professional chef and caterer, which he still does infrequently to this day. He was even a referee for independent pro wrestling matches for a spell. Needless to say, Mr. Gossette has had quite a bit of experience prior to teaching.
When not teaching, Mr. Gossette (affectionately known as Mr. G by some) enjoys watching history documentaries on YouTube. He does story consultation for local graphic novelists. When time permits, Mr. G. streams game play on Twitch, enjoys reading graphic novels, and building model kits. He can often be found at his home doting on and playing with his two cats, Sawyer and Sammy. He spends as much time with his family as he can as well.

Family Engagement Opportunities and Resources
This year, our reading goal is for our students to increase their reading test scores by 10%. We will be sending home reading logs for parents to help monitor students reading engagement at home. Students will have the opportunity to earn points and be able to participate in school activities when their reading log sheet is complete. We will also implement a fun reading engagement activity in our building. Once a week during Stop, Drop, and Read time, students will be expected to read non-stop for ten minutes for pleasure.
