KIA Choi Won-jun, who could not play even one game in AG
According to KIA officials on the 10th, Choi Won-jun was diagnosed with microscopic damage to the fascia and muscles of his left calf as a result of a hospital examination. His rehabilitation period will take six to eight weeks.
Choi Won-jun was selected as a wild card for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games baseball team, but did not play in a single game out of the six games of the tournament. National team coach Ryu Joong-il revealed the reason for Choi Won-jun, saying, "He was hit on his left calf by a ball. He is currently receiving treatment because he feels uncomfortable running."
The national team won the gold medal and achieved the feat of winning the Asian Games for the fourth time in a row, but Choi Won-jun was left disappointed as he was unable to contribute to the team due to an injury.
Choi Won-jun, who was discharged from the Armed Forces Athletic Corps (Sangmu) in June of this year, revitalized the team's offense and defense. He appeared in 67 games and had a batting average of 0.255, 1 home run, 23 RBIs, 13 stolen bases, and an OPS (on-base percentage + slugging percentage) of 0.672. Choi Won-jun's departure is a huge negative news for KIA. He is suffering from a series of injuries to key players at a time when he is competing fiercely to advance to the postseason. Previously, Na Seong-beom (34), Choi Hyeong-woo (40), and Park Chan-ho (28) were ruled out for the season due to injury, and even Choi Won-jun was excluded from the team.
