SAMR: Substitution
SAMR Model - Substitution
Substitution: a useful level in the Model for using technology to make life easier in the learning environment. There is definitely a place for substitution in the 21st century classroom. EdSurge says, "although these activities engage students and enhance learning, the level of tech integration is low: teachers are just substituting technology for things you could do without technology."
Examples of Substitution
Digital Note Taking
Evernote, Noteability, Google Drive (without collaboration), most any note-taking app.
eBooks
Reading a book on the iPad using Kindle, iBooks, OverDrive, etc.
Online Assessments
Skyward Online Assessments, testing online with AWARE, anytime the assessment on paper is substituted with technology.
