An Update From The Bear Den

The first few weeks back from Winter Break are always quite busy at Danville Elementary. It is a great time for classroom teachers to reteach the Bear Expectations, as well as winter playground guidelines. In addition, the students and staff have been working hard to get ready for the winter FAST testing session. This is a time for all schools in Iowa to measure the progress that students have made in reading and math since we started school in the fall.

We have spent some time talking about the importance of appropriate goal setting, as well as growth. We worked with students to help them look at their own past FAST data, and set reasonable, attainable goals for the Winter testing session. We are pleased to report that many of our students have made outstanding growth from the Fall to the Winter testing session. Please ask your child if he/she has done any of the testing sessions yet. Many of our students are very excited to share their results with you.

Last week's Bear Necessities Video Vlog featured some of our fifth grade students. Each Friday afternoon, watch the school Facebook page for the latest edition of our video vlog. We will update you on things going on throughout the building each week. Please make sure to "like" our vlogs on Facebook.

Important Updates From Danville Elementary

*Winter temperatures and snow have arrived! Please make sure your child has snowpants, boots, gloves, and appropriate snow gear each day. We will continue to have outdoor recess as long as the "real feel" temperature is above 10°.

*Report cards for the 2nd Quarter were sent home on Friday, January 14th with the students. Please speak with your child if you haven't seen one come home yet.

*Winter FAST and IRLA testing are underway at Danville Elementary. Your child will be assessed in both reading and math to see how they are progressing this year.

*We continue to limit visitors in the building during the school day. Unfortunately the positivity rates around the area continue to rise, therefore we are taking extra precautions to keep exposure rates down at school. In addition, we continue to encourage proper handwashing.

*Please be reminded that Tuesdays and Thursdays are pick up/drop off days for homework for students that are quarantined.

Valentine's Day Classroom Parties

MOST grade levels at Danville Elementary have elected to hold their Valentine's Day parties on Friday, February 11th. Your child's teacher will be sending home notes with details about their classroom party. Please watch for notifications from your child's grade level concerning their party dates and details.

Mrs. Thornburg's Winter Reading Challenge

Many thanks to the families that participated in Mrs. Thornburg's Winter Break Reading Challenge. We had outstanding participation throughout the entire elementary. More than 100 students were rewarded with a special lunch event with Mrs. Thornburg. In addition, we had 12 students that completed the entire sheet. They will have a breakfast celebration this week on Thursday, January 20th with Mrs. Thornburg for their accomplishment.
