We have been busy reading in so many ways. Everyday we have multiple shared reading experiences and individual reading time. We participate in both chapter and picture book shared reading experiences. During this time, we work on specific reading comprehension skills. Students have also started book clubs and/or reading groups. This allows for small group instruction, skill reinforcement, and discussion about text. Students individual reading time allows them to build their personal reading stamina and put their skills into action.

Last Friday we planted our math gardens. On graph paper students laid out their plots in various sized arrays. They calculated the number of plants needed and then calculated the cost of each plot. It was great to hear and see their thought process as they "planted". Some students protected their foods with a perimeter of thorny plants, while others planted different sections to please the food needs of each family member. They were thoughtful and careful mathematicians.
