2023 Teacher Leader Invitational
The Science of Spelling Instruction & Assessment
We hope that this email finds you hitting your stride in the classroom after these first, few grueling weeks of school. We are excited to re-connect with you all in person for CRLP's 2023 Teacher Leadership Invitational. This year we will continue to implement a hybrid in-person/virtual model. Our first session on October 12 will be held in-person here at Cal. As always, we will provide a wonderful dinner, along with treats and prizes for you all- the hardest working teachers in the Bay Area!
The theme of this year's TL Invitational is The Science of Spelling Instruction & Assessment. We will launch the long-awaited BPST-S Spelling Inventory during our first session to compliment the BPST-IV Phonics Assessment that many of you currently use in your classrooms. Our second and third sessions will take place virtually, and will focus on instruction, and how to best use integrated spelling and decoding data to inform differentiated spelling instruction.
Our Three-Session Learning Series will include the following topics:
- Phonology, Orthography, and Morphology
- Decoding and Encoding in a Structured Literacy Routine
- Key Components of Effective Spelling Instruction
- Spelling Instruction for Multilingual Learners and Struggling Readers
As always, please forward this flyer to any potential Teacher Leaders you may know. We're making a concerted effort to reach out to more stellar teachers of color to join our already diverse and amazing group of Teacher Leaders.
Cheers,
George & Kara
