Whispering Ridge Community School
June 2022
Principals Message
Dear Parents,
I hope this message finds each of you well. Hard to believe that we are already well into June and busy making plans for the end of the school year. As usual, this month's newsletter highlights a number of important activities and upcoming events. Please know the staff and I remain committed to providing you the best service possible and I encourage you to please reach out to your teacher or myself if you have any questions or concerns.
Unfortunately, with the end of the school year quickly approaching the school does need to begin collecting devices, textbooks and other school owned materials. Please review the sections in the newsletter relating to returning of school owned property and picking up report cards and any remaining student items. Our plan is to collect school owned items June 16th. Report card will be sent home on June 28th and mailed home June 29th for any students who were away.
The school is planning to acknowledge and celebrate our grade 8 and our kindergarten students. Fortunately, we are able to provide in person graduation ceremonies and teachers have been busy planning these activities. Please see the information provided later in the newsletter.
I also wanted to thank our Participarent Society and School Council for all the hard work behind the scenes. Both of these groups have been extremely active and are responsible for many of the enrichment activities our students experienced. Later in June or early July soccer posts and an outdoor volleyball net will be installed. Please consider joining one of these groups as they are vital to our school’s continued success. As a school we are so appreciative of our community and parent volunteers.
If you have a moment in June please take a quick minute to thank the teachers and support staff for all their dedication and hard work this year. As a community, we are extremely fortunate to have so many wonderful people working with our students.
Our newsletter has many important dates for activities in June but please circle August 29th, 2022 on your calendar as we will have our Meet the Teacher and Annual General Meeting for school council starting with our open house in the gym at 5:00pm. Please follow the WRCS Facebook page as we will post additional information on our Facebook page. I would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to our caretakers and office staff who have made this year so successful. We are thankful for their welcoming smiles and for keeping our building so beautiful.
Finally, I wanted to thank our students for their hard work and perseverance this year. As a staff, we feel fortunate to work with so many amazing children. I would like to remind all students to keep pushing forward to the end of June. If anyone needs extra help from their teachers, we are always available. Let's make the next few weeks the best it can be and on behalf of the staff of Whispering Ridge Community School I want to wish everyone a fantastic summer vacation! Hopefully we will see everyone in August.
If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me.

Indigenous Education
June is National Indigenous History month! This is a time to recognize and celebrate the rich history, heritage, resilience, and diversity of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit Peoples.
At WRCS, we are celebrating Indigenous culture through Culture Camps on June 2nd and June 6th. PWPSD’s Indigenous Education Services providers will be coming to our school to provide land-based learning experiences to our students!
June 21st is National Indigenous Peoples Day, and WRCS will be celebrating by learning about traditional plants and medicines through the Medicine Box Project.
There will be many opportunities to learn about Indigenous culture during the month of June!
Next Year Planning
With that in mind, aach year at this time we receive a number of requests for children to be placed in specific classrooms. Please know as a school, our teachers consider a number of factors when placing children in a classroom. Some of these factors include friendship groups, academic supports, class size, any specific learner needs and so on. If you have any concerns after finding out the placement of your child for the 2022-2023 school year, please contact the office. This information will go home with term three report cards.

As class lists are finalized in the next few weeks, parents will receive more information from their child's kindergarten teacher about Welcome to Kindergarten on June 28, 2022. The day will be a fun opportunity for the new kindergarten students to come into the classroom, meet their teacher, participate in some centers and tour the school! We are looking forward to meeting all the new kindergarten students and their families. See you soon!
