October Pleasantville STRONG Events
October is National Youth Substance Use Prevention Month
Pleasantville STRONG has lots of events and activities planned to help the young people in our community make healthy choices. We have virtual and in-person events for parents/guardians, a community Narcan training, and we remind community members to safely dispose of Rx and over the counter medications as we observe the DEA Drug Take-Back Day on October 28th.
Join us at the Homecoming Football Game on Friday, October 13th @ 6pm
Stop by and spin the wheel and win some prizes and giveaways. STRONG has partnered with Sources of Strength to put stickers on the concession items at the game- reminding our community members to keep our sports fun, safe and healthy for our youth.
Red Ribbon Week (October 23rd-31st)
Red Ribbon Week highlights the importance of living a drug-free life. It presents an opportunity for parents, educators, and communities to reinforce the drug-free messages they share with their children throughout the year. Sources of Strength, the mental health peer club, at Pleasantville High School are planning fun, youth-led prevention activities for both the HS and MS to mark the national observances.
Join us for Hard Conversations Made (a little) Easier. October 23rd @ 7PM PHS Library
Prevention begins with conversations... Talking about drugs and alcohol can be hard. Join us for a community conversation where we'll explore How to: talk with children and teens and talk with other adults (friends, community members). It's never too early to start the conversation. This event is open to parents/guardians in all our schools. Please register at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0E49AFA62EA0F5C34-45142599-hard
Free Virtual Speaker- October 25th @ 7:00PM
All parents and adult community members are invited to join KNOW2Prevent for a presentation by Dr. Cystal Collier, a therapist, prevention researcher, educator and author of The NeuroWhereAbouts Guide .
Taking risks is a natural behavior for teens, but what is acceptable and when should parents and caregivers step in? Join us to learn parenting techniques based on your child's stage of brain development and to understand the effects of alcohol, marijuana, technology overuse, pornography, first person shooter games and social media on the teen brain.
