Message From Principal Adam Mitchell
What an outstanding Trimester! Thank you all for your hard work and diligent efforts to support your student(s) in their academics, attendance, activities, and well-being. As a school, our data shows that students are here more often and are passing more classes, those are both huge accomplishments!
With the start of Trimester 2 on Monday, we want to remind and encourage all of our students to continue to be focused and working hard from the very start of their new courses. Getting off to a good start to the trimester will make the rest of it that much easier!
Finally, with the end of the trimester, we would love to hear about any additional stories about the great work that our staff does! Please fill out our "Celebrate Sherwood Staff" form to share anything you may have.
Thank you all again, this is the start of a great year at Sherwood High School!
Have a great weekend and Go Bowmen!
Mr. Mitchell

Confer's Corner:
Transitions are a theme of the high school experience. There is the transition from middle school to high school and the transition from the tween stage to the young adult stage and then the transition to graduation and adulthood. One area as the Dean of Students that I have the pleasure to focus on, is supporting students in that first transition from middle School to high School.
The transition from middle school to high school is important because it lays the foundation for what the high school experience will be like after the freshman year. The University of Chicago has done extensive research on factors leading to students graduating from high school. The research shows that students who are on-track to graduate after their freshman year (earning 6 credits and passing core classes) are more than 3.5x likely to graduate on time. We understand that supporting our students as they make the transition from middle school to high school leads to better outcomes.
At Sherwood High School we have a 9th Grade Success Team that is evaluating the progress of every 9th grade student and offering support to ensure success. The areas of focus are academics, attendance and social/emotional. At the adult level we are reviewing student data by individual and by course and determining targeted areas of needed support. At the student level there are four Student Success Mentors that are 11th grade students that have been conducting empathy interviews with a variety of 9th grade students to learn their perspective on their 9th grade experience, specifically, what has been positive, what they wish was different and how the adults could best support them.
As parents, the number one thing you can do to support your students in all of their transitions is to make sure that your student is attending school on time and on a consistent basis. Students who are attending school on a regular basis are able to experience the natural growth that occurs through the daily experiences during the transitions. Growth, experience and feedback both academically and socially/emotionally will lay the foundation for the next transition they will experience.
As the trimester ends we are entering the next transition period for this year. The new trimester offers new experiences, growth and opportunity for all students. Especially for our 9th grade students as they transition to a new trimester with some experience behind them and the ability to set attendance and academic goals for themselves to stay on track. It is a pleasure to support your students as they grow.
Trimester 2 Schedule Change Requests
If you would like to request a schedule change for 2nd or 3rd trimester, please click HERE for a link to our schedule change request form. This is the only way requests are being accepted this school year.
Request forms will be addressed in the order they are received. For 2nd trimester, requests will be processed through 3:45 pm on Friday, December 8th. Any 2nd trimester changes after the deadline could result in a withdrawal fail grade.
Once you submit a request, continue attending your schedule as is. Counselors will work through the requests as quickly as we can. You can view any changes in StudentVue. Once you see the change in StudentVue, you may begin attending your new schedule.
Thanks in advance for your patience!
