Principals Message
A message from the principal of Randwick Boy's High School:
"I am often asked when I visit Primary Schools when our Open Night occurs. The various government high schools in the area attempt to coordinate Open Nights so that they do not occur on the same night, to give parents who are “shopping around” the opportunity to visit different schools.
For 2015, Randwick Boys’ High School Open Night will be held on Tuesday March 10 from 5.00 – 7.30pm. Primary schools will receive information shortly detailing the events for Open Night. It is a great opportunities to meet key staff and students to talk about the school. Don’t just take my word for it, you can ask others at Open Night and learn what a great school Randwick Boys’ High School is."
Valuing Our Children - The Tell Them From Me student feedback survey
I am delighted that this term, our students in Years 4-6 will participate in a Department of Education and Communities initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey aims to help improve student learning outcomes and measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.
More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents
The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide our school with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help improve how they do things at school.
I want to assure you that the survey is confidential and school staff will not be able to identify individual students from their responses. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 9 March and 2 April. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary.
A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey as been sent home with students. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by Friday 27 February. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from the website above.
Staying in Touch - Updating Your Contact Details
Often over the holidays, family contact details change. This may be because of moving house, changing jobs, establishing a new mobile phone contract etc. Can I ask that if you have changed any of your contact details, in particular the phone numbers and addresses of your family and your emergency contact, that you pass this information on to our office at your earliest convenience. We have had situations where children have been injured at school and we have been unable to contact any of the listed adults due to changed numbers etc. We all care about the wellbeing of our children here at Banksmeadow PS and your support with this is much appreciated.
Keeping Our Children Safe – Hours of Supervision at School
For those families who may be new to our school, I’d like to take this opportunity to let you know that children will be supervised at school from 8:30am. As a father of 3 myself, I understand and appreciate the pressures of coordinating work and family commitments on a daily basis. If you need supervision for your child prior to 8:30am, please feel free contact the ACTIVOOSH on 0404039789 to access our OOSH (Outside Of School Hours) services.
Enjoy the rest of your week everyone
Ben Walsh (Relieving Principal)
Reminder - Limited Parking Around Our School Monday 23rd February
On Monday 23rd February, our school will be hosting the Eastern Suburbs PSSA Rugby League and Soccer trials on our school paddock. As a courtesy, the school wishes to advise that the available parking around our school, especially on Trevelyan and Wiggins Streets, on that day may be limited due to a large number of anticipated visitors. Good luck to all our students participating in these trials.
Leadership Awards
At this week's assembly, the Hon. Member for Kingsford Smith, Mr Matt Thistlethwaite presented our school leadership team and sports captains with special leadership awards. He also spoke to the school about the importance of leaders in our community. Congratulations leaders of 2015!

Library
All children have now started their library lessons and have borrowed books. Children are encouraged to care for their book and part of this is having a bag to protect their book from being damaged so please ensure that a library bag is provided. If books are lost or damaged a note will be sent home asking for the book to be paid for. Please pay this as soon as possible so that your child can continue to borrow books.

Sports News
PSSA Sport
PSSA sport starts this Friday and Banksmeadow has students involved in AFL, Softball and Cricket. Each week the PSSA teams are transported by bus to play against other school teams at venues dedicated to the sport. We are privileged to be part of the competition and wish all our teams the very best of luck. Please be sure to sign permission notes and pay the weekly bus fee for your child to travel to PSSA venues otherwise they will not be able to participate. Training will commence this Friday on the school oval from 8:15am.
For further information, including cancellations, change in routine and game results follow us on twitter (@BanksmeadowPS) for live updates. Draws for each sport can be found by clicking on the link below.
New Sporting Equipment
With the money raised from the Premiers Sporting Challenge in 2014, the school has also purchased a set of soccer goals. These are regularly used by students at lunch time and will be used for PSSA activities later on in the year.
Zone Swimming Carnival
ESPSSA Representatives
A further congratulations goes to Kane (5/6B) and Mathew (5/6B) who were both selected in the ESPSSA Open Boys AFL team. This is a fantastic achievement and a first for Banksmeadow Public School as we have never had representative players selected in an ESPSSA AFL team. Well done boys!
