Career Fair 2023
On December 14, 2023, 8th grade students participated in the annual OVMS Career Fair. Students engaged in a mock job interview, completed a mock job application, interacted with OVHS students in a Q&A session, participated in hands-on activities, and began a preliminary, four-year course plan towards graduation.
Thank you to those community members, business professionals, and others who volunteered their time to interview and interact with our students. Students reported back that their Fair experiences were very beneficial and enlightening.

Course Selection ~ Class of 2028
Students will be receiving Course Selection Sheets during the week of January 30th.
STEPS TO COURSE SELECTION
1) Students should have conversations with their teachers regarding teacher recommendations for next year and have their teachers sign off approval for next year's courses.
2) Once teachers have signed off, students and parents should review and sign off on the selected courses next year. Please keep in mind the following information:
~Students should select enough courses that combined equal 8.0 credits~
~Generally, students should select 1.0 credits in the four core courses (Math, Social Studies, Science and English) *BCTC students have different requirements for graduation - see the OVHS Course Catalog on the HS Website or in the link below~
3) Course Selection Sheets should be returned to the OVMS Guidance Office by FEBRUARY 15th. The form must have ALL the required signatures - Parent, Student and Teachers - to be considered completed.
4) AFTER handing their course selection sheets, students will meet individually with the counselors to make sure they are meeting all graduation requirements.
BCTC
BCTC's website hosts a free career interest survey which is available online to anyone. The survey produces individualized results which are then directly connected to career clusters and programs offered at BCTC.
Students and parents can then view each program's webpage which contains a brief video about the program, a skills alignment chart, and a list of potential certifications students can earn while participating in that program.
See the link below which will take you to the career survey.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS IN GRADES 8-11: OVHS will no longer be mailing paper copies of student schedules in June . Student schedules for the upcoming year will only be posted in the Infinite Campus Portal.
In late June, a SchoolMessenger announcement will go out alerting parents and students that schedules are available for viewing. Parents and students will still have until the first Monday in August to request schedule changes. More information on how to make a change request will be forthcoming.
Over the next few months, we ask that all parents and students take a moment to check their Infinite Campus Portal for accessibility. If you need assistance logging in, please contact the main office at the MS.
After School Tutoring
Please sign up below if you are interested in having your student work with a NHS peer tutor. Tutoring happens after school in the MS Library, from 2:20 PM - 3:00 PM. Symptoms often include feelings of sadness, hopelessness, social withdrawal, and sluggishness along with a decrease of enjoyment and fulfillment in preferred activities. Typically, 3 million cases of SAD reported in the US each year and many more go under-reported. Although most cases are reported in the winter, spring and summer are also known to impact unexplainable mood changes.
Below are a few tips in helping to ease the symptoms of SAD. If you or a loved one continue to experience deepening and pervasive feelings of depression, hopelessness or fatigue, please reach out to your family doctor or mental health professional.
