Message from the Principal
JAJHS Families,
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! This is going to be such an exciting year for your child as they attend Jonathan Alder Junior High School! At JAJHS, we are looking forward to getting to know our students’ unique personalities, celebrating and encouraging their talents, understanding and growing their academic knowledge, and pushing their critical thinking and problem solving skills. This is all done in a safe and supportive learning environment that honors the rich traditions within our community!
Junior high years can be such a unique time for many adolescents. We know it can be a time of growth and discovery but also a time of anxieties and challenges. The JAJHS staff recognizes this and constantly works to support our students through these dynamic times of their lives. We want our kids to go home challenged, cared for, celebrated, and supported. Studies consistently show the value of strong school-home partnerships and we look forward to working with you on this journey throughout the school year.
It was great to see so many families at our Student-Parent Orientations this past week! If you were unable to attend, the slides from the presentation can be found here.
Here are some important back-to-school details:
Students’ Schedules
Instructions for accessing schedules were shared with students this past week. Additional information can be found on our website. We will have additional paper copies of schedules available at Open House (8/15) and on the first day of school (8/17).
Open House
7th Graders and any new-to-the-building 8th Graders: An Open House will be held Monday, August 15th from 6:30 - 7:30 PM. This will be an opportunity for students to walk-through their schedules, briefly meet teachers, and familiarize themselves with the building. Students may drop off supplies in their homerooms at this time if they’d like to.
8th Graders: 8th graders are invited to walk-through their schedules on Friday, August 12th from 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM. The building hallways will be open for students to re-familiarize themselves with classroom locations. 8th graders can bring their supplies the first week of school .

Message from the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director
My name is Scott Moyer and I am excited to be a part of the junior high family as the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director! I know this building is filled with great kids and the teaching staff has high expectations for themselves and the students. I can't wait to see the great things our students will accomplish in the classroom and on the playing field!
A few things about me: This will be my 16th year in education. I graduated from The University of Toledo and spent my first eleven years in the Olentangy school district where I taught 7th grade math. I also coached basketball for many years and was the Athletic Director the last few years. Also for 3 years, I was the Marysville Bunsold Middle School Athletic Director and Assistant High School Athletic Director. My wife Jen and I live in Marysville with our 4 boys and a Chinese Pug named Mia. Our family loves to be outdoors playing baseball, exploring metro parks and fishing. In the summer when we are not at the baseball diamond or traveling for tournaments , we love to spend time on Lake Erie.
A quick fall sports update. Our football, cheerleading, cross country and volleyball teams have started official practice and are wrapping up their 2nd week of practice to prepare for their scrimmages next week. If you are interested in attending a volleyball or football game this year, we have four different options for ticketing to attend. We can not take cash at the ticketing gate for any athletic event.
Volleyball/Football Junior High Season Pass: We will be offering a football and a volleyball season pass which will be good for 1 person per pass. These passes can only be used at junior high games and will be posted on our ticketing website by next week.
10 event Pass: Similar to a punch card, this pass will be good for 10 events throughout the fall and winter season. You may mix and match what junior high events you go to and it is only to be used for junior high games.
Online Tickets: Single game tickets will be posted on our ticketing website to purchase prior to each event.
Point of Sale: Don’t have a pass or forgot to buy an online ticket prior to the event? If you have a debit or credit card, you will be able to purchase tickets at the gate using our credit card system.
Passes and ticketing information will be posted next week to our ticketing website:
I can't wait to meet our newest students and get started on the school year! If you have any questions or concerns about athletics or ticketing, please feel free to reach out to me here at the junior high!
Go Pioneers!
