Also, the Sea Perch club raised money to go to nationals this summer by selling chances to pie teachers in the face. They raised about $650 dollars! Thank you to all who donated!
Tips for talking to your students about perseverance:
Share stories and challenging experiences. Be vulnerable and share personal experiences when you have struggled with a task or concept and had to work hard to push through.
Praise effort and process, not intelligence or performance. Affirm students for the process they used to tackle tasks and point out how their abilities grow through their own hard work.
Give your students the chance to struggle. Struggle builds self-confidence, independence, and perseverance. Resist the urge to intervene immediately and give students time to figure it out.

Project Lead the Way Sheridan Middle School has been selected as a recipient of the 2022 Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Grant from the Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) funded by Walton Family Foundation. We believe that this grant will help us offer high interest and engaging courses such as Automation and Robotics, Design and Modeling, and Flight and Space. We are confident that this grant will enable our school to continue to inspire and motivate students to pursue careers in STEM fields. Teachers Jerome Wilson and Tina Melton helped write this $78,554 grant.
SeaPerch-4-H Program SeaPerch is an integrated STEM underwater robotics program. Sheridan Middle School collaborates with Grant County 4-H to create an engaging hands-on engineering experience. This school year, SMS formed five teams of 20 students who worked for five months to build, test, redesign, and ultimately compete with their remotely operated vehicles. SMS Sponsor -Tina Melton
