As we gear up for the new year, we are actively seeking parents and community members interested in becoming substitute teachers within our district. Substitutes play a vital role in ensuring continuity when teachers are unable to be in the classroom due to various reasons.
Here's why being a substitute teacher with us is a great opportunity:
- Flexibility: Choose the building(s) you want to work in and decide how many days a week fit your schedule.
- Support: Receive clear, well-planned lessons, and enjoy support from our dedicated team throughout the day.
- Direct Impact: Work directly with students, helping them grow and learn in a positive educational environment.
Education Requirements:
- Completed 60 hours of college credit OR
- Finished 20 hours of online training
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requires all substitutes to apply for their own substitute certificates through the department's website, https://dese.mo.gov/educator-quality/certification/substitute-teachers

5th Grade Hosts Family Book Club
Reading is fun, but with others it can be an adventure.
5th grade families were recently invited to join a family book club, where students, teachers, and their families could connect over the love of books and reading! Fifth grade teachers, Mrs. Bartlett, Ms. Cook, and Mrs. Eads, selected three books families could read together, and each book was introduced through "Book Ads," highlighting the story's genre, characters, and theme. Parents and students then chose which book they wanted to read together at home. The goal was to offer a unique and interactive way to encourage families to connect and engage with the school community by finding a love for books and reading!
As they read, they interacted with the teachers and other families through Family Book Club blog posts. The book club wrapped up with a fun celebration that included games, discussions, snacks, and poster creations related to the books they read. Students and families had such a positive experience, including spending time reading and talking together and off of electronics, that they requested another book club in January!
Thank you Mrs. Bartlett, Ms. Cook and Mrs. Eads for hosting this book club adventure!
