Dear Jefferson Families,

It's been a hot but productive week here at Jefferson! As we continue to settle into the new school year, it is our pleasure to invite you to Back to School Night on Thursday, September 21st from 5:15-6:45 PM.

Like last year, parents/guardians/caregivers may attend alone or bring children to this event. Families are welcome to visit anytime during the evening. We anticipate visits lasting 20-30 minutes.

During your visit, you are invited to:

• Meet your child’s teacher(s) and look around their classroom(s)

• Meet your child’s special educator(s) and related service provider(s) if applicable

• Meet our curriculum specialists, counselors, and school psychologist

• Meet members of the PCC Board

• Hear about volunteer opportunities

• Check out some Jefferwear

• Support the PCC Bake Sale

• Complete a CORI form in the office if you are planning to volunteer this year

• Meet Mrs. Murray and me if you have not already!

As you know, permission forms must be completed annually. Please click on this link to access Jefferson's 23/24 Forms. Please fill out one form for each student. If you need to change the language of the form, please refer to the email sent on Friday, September 1st titled "Jefferson School Forms." We ask that you complete the forms by September 29, 2023.

We have a new Book Vending Machine at Jefferson! Students will recieve tokens during their birthday weeks and other special times throughout the year. Tokens can be redeemed for a book from the Book Vending Machine. Many thanks to our PCC and Classes 2020 and 2022 for this amazing gift to our school community!

We are also still working to hire a long term substitute special educator. The position will be from the start of the school year until January. Please visit the posting here if you or anyone you know is qualified and interested!

Lifelong Learning’s Kids’ Corner Program is pleased to offer students in grades K-8 the following after-school enrichment opportunities:

• Business Sharks (grades 2-5): Design the business of your dreams and pitch it to a panel of “sharks”!
• Expert Architects (grades 2-5): Create a blueprint then build your dream building out of Legos!
• Yoga and Mindfulness (grades K-3): Build self-confidence, learn to focus, and create body awareness.
• Basic Spanish (grades 3-6): Learn basic vocabulary and pronunciation in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
• Kids’ Cooking (grades 3-5 and 6-8): Create 1-2 dishes per week in this popular weekly class.
• Home Safety and Security (grades 1-5): Franklin police officers teach children to be safe at home alone for short periods of time in this one-hour free class.

The Lifelong Music Academy is also offering its after-school music programs again this year. These classes are a great opportunity for students to learn to play an instrument!

• Band School (grades 4-9): Tuesdays starting September 26, 2023.
• Elementary Glee (grades 3-5): Thursdays starting September 28, 2023.
• String School (grades 3-12): Wednesdays starting September 27, 2023.
• Private Music Lessons (grades 3-12): Monday-Thursday, schedule varies by instrument, starting the week of September 11, 2023. Registration is ongoing throughout the school year.

Flu Clinic: The Franklin Health Department is hosting a Flu Clinic on 10/11 from 3-6PM with free flu shots for kids 18 and under. Please see the flyer below and register here!

Ice Cream Social - September 14, 4pm - 5:30 pm

Mark your calendars, the back-to-school ice cream social is next Thursday, September 14 from 4 pm to 5:30 pm on the Jefferson playground! Siblings are welcome. This is NOT a drop-off event.

The Jefferson PCC is completely volunteer-run. In order to continue to offer all of the great events and activities scheduled each year, we need your help. Even if you only have a few minutes each month, there is a way for you to help! We have a variety of fun committees to choose from, so please indicate your interest HERE. The Committee Chair will be in touch via email with more information in the coming weeks.

As many of you know, the PCC, or Parent Communication Council, is a group of parent volunteers that work with the staff and administration of the school to enrich students' educational experience. This is done through fundraisers, events, and activities. The PCC fully funds field trips for every student at Jefferson, holds Book Fairs, hosts Cultural Enrichment Assemblies for the children, and sponsors the Artist in Residence Program each year. They are already planning some great events this year and we hope you will mark your calendars and attend or even help out when you can!
