We are thrilled to announce that Hatherly had its first in-person All School Meeting this morning, and it did not disappoint! We were so impressed with all of the student responses about their ‘special adult’, we decided to kick off our April meeting with a short video of some students sharing what they feel is most special about their special adult. Next, we introduced our April theme of EMPOWERMENT! Students learned about the importance of responsible risk taking, and the value of pushing themselves to try new things, express themselves and stand up for what they believe in. Next, we got to hear from some amazing students from several groups share about what they do, how they got there, and the ways they are empowering themselves and the rest of Hatherly School right now! A special shout out goes to these courageous kids! Groups include: The creators ‘Happenings in the Hive’, our very own school newspaper club, which included creators Justin Bacon, Liam Kelly, Ellis Sykes, Nate Butler and Chase Hughes; The officers from the 5th grade Hatherly Student Government, President Cameron Roy, Treasurer Reid Seward, Vice President Jack Withrow and Secretary Tessa Lynch; Members of the Recess Committee, Harper Friend, Ailin O’Shea, Fritz Brenner, Nate Butler, Bevan Doyle and Gavin O’Shea. Students learned about the importance of positive self-talk, and some ways to help build courage and empower themselves through the use of empowerment statements and power poses - which we practiced together! Finally, students were introduced to our school wide activity for the month, which will include students drawing themselves in their power pose and describing a time when they need to use their pose to be courageous, and why.
