Mustang Minute
Friday, October 28th
From the Principals' Offices
Thank you to all of our families who participated in conferences this week. We are so grateful for your partnership in supporting our students in Growing Into Greatness!
It's Halloween this coming Monday! We will be allowing students and staff to wear costumes to school to get in the spirit! Please ensure that your child's costume will not disrupt their school day or the school day of others. Costumes that preclude a student's ability to comfortably sit in his/her desk or to run around in Personal Wellness class are not good choices. We are also not allowing masks or anything that is too gruesome or scary or that depicts or encourages violence. Thanks for your help in assisting your student with his/her costume.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
- School Picture Retake Day is this Tuesday, November 1st, during the School Day!
- Guth's Games will also begin on Tuesday of this week! Please read on for details!
- Don't forget that our ALICE Safety Training for parents is also this week, on Wednesday, November 2, from 6-7:30pm at the BES Multipurpose Room. This is a presentation meant for adults only. Babysitting will be available onsite for those in need. Please notify your child's school office if child care is needed. We hope to see you all there!
Have a GREAT weekend, Mustangs!

Attention 8th Grade Students...
Brookwood Elementary School: BE BROOKWOOD!!!
Students observed going above and beyond in being kind, being safe, and/or being responsible are issued “BE BROOKWOOD” tickets throughout their school week. Each week we randomly select students from this group and acknowledge them in our morning announcements and in the weekly MUSTANG MINUTE. Help us congratulate the students that were drawn:
We will be drawing our monthly winners on Monday. We will have our October BE BROOKWOOD celebrated in next week's Mustang Minute.
FROM THE CLASSROOM...
What's Happening in Mrs. Kanthack's 8th Grade Science Class?
What's Happening in Mrs. Horak's BES Art Room?
It’s a busy time of year for Brookwood artists! 2 nd graders just finished their clay sculpture
pumpkins. Clay is always a favorite project for Brookwood artists. The pumpkins are proudly
displayed in the case outside the BES gym. The 4 th grade artists drew pumpkins using zentangle
designs and paint while the 5 th graders used glue and chalk to create their pumpkins. It’s
wonderful to see the many different ways our artists create seasonal art. Take a walk down the
hall outside the BMS art room and see for yourself!
It’s also that time of year when the BES art room turns into a fantastical glowing art room.
Kindergarten through 3 rd grade artists used fluorescent art supplies to turn the art room into a
black light art show. Iconic Fall pictures and Halloween scenes glow in the black light. The
Fall Glow Art Show is open for all to see during parent teacher conferences. Not to be missed!

OLD NEWS, BUT GOOD NEWS...
Weather Appropriate Clothing
Academic Lab at BMS
Students will begin their study time with one of their teachers, right after school in that teacher’s classroom.
At 3:20pm, students will then report to the Academic Lab in the library. A team of Academic Lab teachers will continue to help students in working on the tasks of focus, as assigned by their teacher.
Academic Lab teachers will also assist students with putting any unfinished assignments needing to be completed into their assignment notebooks, so that families are in the loop of tasks that still need attention at home.
Academic Lab will end at 4:25pm. Students will not be allowed to leave early unless a parent needs to pick them up sooner.
The Late Bus will continue to be offered as afternoon transportation home from the Academic Lab, and will depart promptly at 4:30pm. (Note: The Late Bus will also still be available on Tuesdays for students in athletics).
Families: We need your help in giving our students the attention they need and deserve. We hope that you will take full advantage of this resource when your student is in need of additional support.
