Randolph Families,
Thank you to everyone who participated in our Kindness Spirit Week. We had a lot of dress up fun! Our Kids' Heart Challenge continues through Friday 2/23! Information is attached below.
At this week's School Board Meeting adjustments to next year's 24-25 school calendar were approved. Communication came from Dr. Cromartie via email to all families and can be found here:
Some of the key highlights of the new calendar (attached) are:
- First day of School, August 19th (Had previously been August 12th);
- Last day of School, May 30th (Had previously been June 6th);
- Two days originally proposed for Fall Break have now been added to the week of Thanksgiving making November 25th-29th staff and student holidays;
- Spring break has moved from the second week of April to the first (regional alignment)
- Parent/Teacher Conference are Friday, October 18th (no school for students)

- Our beloved music teacher Mr. Powers is turning 50! He is a blaze runner, so we are asking that as a surprise for his birthday, students who are blaze runners wear their house shirts/gear and everyone else wear orange as able. All staff will be in black (Mr. Powers' favorite color)!

- March 5, 2024 is now a virtual/asynchronous day as Byrd and Randolph Elementary Schools will be used as polling places for the Presidential Primaries.
SAVE THE DATE! Let's "Go Nutz for Reading" with the Richmond Flying Squirrels! During the months of February and March, RES students will have the opportunity to complete a special bookmark and earn a FREE ticket to the Flying Squirrels baseball game on Wednesday, May 29th! All they have to do is READ! **Use this link to purchase tickets for other family members early - and help raise funds for our school! *Detailed information will be coming home with your child next week.

PTA NEWS
Are you looking for ways to become more involved at Randolph! We have several open positions for the PTA board next year! Check out the flier attached, and feel free to reach out to randolphparentteachera@gmail.com or any current board member for more information.
We are also starting a raffle for front row seats during each grade level performance. The 1st show will be the 5th grade performance of On the Radio on 2/29.
Please visit our memberhub page linked below to purchase tickets for this raffle. Drawing will be held 2/26--there will be 3 winners, each winning a pair of seats in the front row during this show! Additional show dates for other grades will be announced soon!
Gifted and Talented News
How can students be referred for gifted screening?
A teacher or a parent may refer a child for gifted screening. If your child exhibits gifted behaviors and is performing above level, you or your child’s teachers may refer your child as a good candidate. The spring testing window opens February 1st and closes February 29th.
Go to Goochland County Schools Gifted Page. Here you will find the Gifted Referral Process and the Initial Referral Form. This form is due to Randolph Elementary by 3pm on February 29th.

County-wide Communication
The Advisory Committee for Equity in Education (ACEE) is a group of community members serving in partnership with Goochland County’s School Administrators and staff. ACEE was established to help support the goals of Goochland’s school system when it comes to equity in education. Please see attached for more details!
Goochland County Public Schools is accepting applications for preschool for the 2024-2025 school year! Goochland has preschool classrooms at each of its three elementary schools. These preschool programs are full-day programs and transportation to and from school is provided. Our preschool programs at Byrd Elementary School are for three- and four-year-olds. Our preschool programs at Randolph and Goochland Elementary Schools are for four-year-olds. You can apply for preschool using this online application.
