Transportation FAQ
Will there be bus transportation during the 2020-21 school year?
Yes, transportation services will be provided to those students that qualify from their home address.
My student normally rides a bus, but I do not feel comfortable with them riding to start the school year. How do I notify the Transportation Department of this decision? If I change my mind as the school year progresses, may I contact the Transportation Department and set up bus transportation again?
Yes, please contact the Transportation Department as soon as you make that decision. Providing the numbers allows us to add more students to the route, we can do so with approximately a 48 hour turnaround time.
How many students will be allowed on each bus route?
No more than two per seat will be allowed on each bus route.
Will students be required to wear face masks while riding the bus?
Yes, face coverings will be required on all bus routes, unless the student has a medical condition verified in writing by a medical professional.
Weather permitting, will the bus windows be open to ensure more ventilation?
Windows will be dropped down to the safety line for all buses, weather permitting.
How and when will I be notified of pick up times for my student(s)?
Postcards will be mailed out to those that qualify for busing, as soon as routes are determined.
What safety precautions will be taken as my student boards the bus in the morning?
Each student will be greeted and observed by the driver for the duration of the bus route. If the driver should notice any concerns, they will advise the responsible school district employee/administrator. All buses will have hand sanitizer on board.
Will bus drivers be performing temperature scans and/or asking wellness screening questions as the students board the bus?
No, temperature scans and self-certification should be conducted at home prior to leaving for the bus. All students will be observed by the bus driver. If there are any concerns, the bus driver will advise management.
What safety measures will be taken for the bus ride home?
The same safety precautions will be taken on the bus ride home as the ride to school. Each bus will have hand sanitizer bottles. Buses will be sanitized in between runs. Bus windows will be open for proper ventilation.
Will students be allowed to eat their grab ‘n go lunch on the bus ride home?
No, students are not allowed to eat any food on the bus.
Will there be hand sanitizers on the buses for students as they enter the bus in the morning and after school?
Yes, hand sanitizers will be located in a spot where the students can access it when loading and unloading the bus.
Will my preschool student receive bus services?
Yes, preschool students that qualify will receive bus service.
My student is an out-of-district special education student. Will they still be transported by bus to their school?
Yes, out-of-district special education students will be transported as in the past.
Will the same safety measures be taken on special education routes as regular education routes?
Yes, the same safety precautions will be taken on large yellow buses, white activity buses, district vans and vehicles.
My student has been transported to their out-of-district special education school via a district van. What precautions will be taken to ensure their safety via this smaller vehicle (not a bus).
Observation by the driver and hand sanitizer will be available and encouraged. Social distancing will take place as space permits. Masks are required.
My student normally had a bus aide on their special education route. Will there still be a bus aide on their bus route?
Yes, bus aides will ride on buses and other vehicles if the route requires one.
We are homeless right now. Will my students receive transportation from our shelter or temporary housing even if it is in another town?
Homeless students are encouraged to meet with the social worker in their building and they will contact the district homeless liaison officer to make transportation arrangements.
Food Service FAQ
Our family has been taking advantage of free meals during the pandemic school closure started in March and throughout the summer months. Does that mean my students will receive free meals when school starts?
No, the State of Illinois has a different set of rules for emergency and summer meals than it does during the school year. All students 18 and under were eligible to receive meals since March 17th, but once school starts the students meal costs will be based on the students’ eligibility status (free, reduced or paid).
Will students be served breakfast and lunch at school during the 2020-21 school year?
Yes, the district will offer breakfast and lunch for all free, reduced and full pay students.
What precautions will food service employees take while preparing meals?
Food service employees will wear face coverings, gloves, aprons and socially distance while preparing meals, as space permits.
Can my students bring in their own breakfast and lunch?
Students are welcome to bring in their own breakfast and lunch in proper lunch bags.
My students are eligible for free or reduced meals, will they continue to receive free or reduced meals if the meals are served in the classroom?
Yes, the district will record all student’s meals in their PowerSchool account. If the student is free, there will be no charge to their account. For students approved for reduced meals, breakfast will cost $0.30 and lunch will be $0.40. If full pay, the student will be charged $1.25 for breakfast at all grade levels. Lunches are $2.65 for students in PK-6 and $2.75 for students in grades 7-12. It is preferred that parents load money into their PowerSchool account, so no cash is sent to school. If it is a hardship to put money in the PowerSchool account through RevTrak, parents may send checks to school. For safety reasons, no cash will be accepted.
My students will ride the bus in the morning. Will there be time for them to grab breakfast on the way to their classroom in the morning?
Yes, students in grades PK-6 will be served breakfast in the classroom. Middle and high school students will pick up grab ‘n go breakfast as they enter the building.
My elementary students will be in-person two days per week. Will they be able to receive breakfast at school? Will they receive lunch at school?
Elementary school students will be served breakfast and lunch in the classroom on the days they attend in-person. Remember, students will be charged according to their current meal status.
My middle and high school students will be in-person two days a week. Will they be able to receive breakfast and lunch at school?
Middle and high school students will be able to pick up their grab ‘n go breakfast to take to their first hour class on the days they are in-person at the school. Middle and high school students will pick up their lunch as they exit the building at approximately 11:40 a.m. and take it home to eat. They, too, will be charged according to their current meal status.
Will students be allowed to eat their grab ‘n go lunch on the bus ride home?
No, students are not allowed to eat any food during their bus route.
My student(s) will be remote learning only, how can I receive our free or reduced meals while they are at home learning?
Every Monday, the school district will offer five days of meals for students who are signed up for remote learning. This will include five breakfasts and five lunches. Times are to be determined and the schedule will vary if the week includes a holiday or day off school. Again, there will be no charge for students with free lunch status. Reduced price and full pay students’ accounts will be charged accordingly.
What will happen if the entire district has to return to E-Learning and no one is learning at the school buildings? Will the district provide meals, like they have since the COVID-19 shutdown in March and throughout the summer?
The district realizes the importance of feeding the students in our community. We will continue to provide meals if the schools are closed, due to the pandemic. If this is the case, all students 18 and under will receive free meals, regardless of their eligibility status. This is because the Illinois State Board of Education has different regulations if all school buildings are closed in the State of Illinois.
What type of breakfast will my students receive if the district serves grab ‘n go breakfast?
Schools will conform with USDA meal requirements and all students will receive pre-packaged bags with grains, meat/meat alternates, fruits or vegetables and milk.
What type of food will be served if my middle and high school students are picking up grab and go lunches before they board the bus and/or leave the building.
Bagged lunches for middle and high school students will also conform with USDA meal requirements, including grains, meat/meat alternates, fruits, vegetables and milk.
My students will be in-person two days per week. Will they be able to take home meals for the days they will be remote learning?
Yes, at the end of the school day when the student is in-person, they will be able to take home meals to eat at home during remote learning days. For example, an elementary student who is in-person on Tuesday will be able to take home a breakfast and lunch to eat on Wednesday. When they are in-person on Thursday, they may take home a bag with meals for Friday and Monday.
Middle and high school students may take home the lunch for the day they were in-person and breakfast and lunch for the days they are remote.
Please remember, that meals will be tracked for the student who will be consuming the food and their PowerSchool account will be charged according to their eligibility status (free, reduced and paid).
Will students be allowed to eat their grab ‘n go lunch on the bus ride home?
No, students are not allowed to eat during their bus route.
My family should be directly certified by the State, because we receive SNAP or Medicaid benefits. How will I know if we are directly certified?
The Administration Office will let you know if your students are directly certified.
What if my students are not directly certified?
The District Office will send you a link to apply for free or reduced meals within the next two weeks.

Sí, los desinfectantes para manos se ubicarán en un lugar donde los estudiantes puedan acceder al cargar y descargar el autobús.
¿Mi estudiante de preescolar recibirá servicios de autobús?
Sí, los estudiantes de preescolar que califican recibirán servicio de autobús.
Mi estudiante es un estudiante de educación especial fuera del distrito. ¿Seguirán siendo transportados en autobús a su escuela?
Sí, los estudiantes de educación especial fuera del distrito serán transportados como en el pasado.
¿Se tomarán las mismas medidas de seguridad en las rutas de educación especial que en las rutas de educación regular?
Sí, se tomarán las mismas precauciones de seguridad en los autobuses grandes amarillos, los autobuses blancos de actividades y las camionetas y vehículos del distrito.
Mi estudiante ha sido transportado a su escuela de educación especial fuera del distrito a través de una camioneta del distrito. Qué precauciones se tomarán para garantizar su seguridad a través de este vehículo más pequeño (no un autobús).
La observación por parte del chofer y el desinfectante para manos estarán disponibles y alentados. El distanciamiento social se llevará a cabo según lo permita el espacio.
Mi estudiante normalmente tenía un asistente de autobús en su ruta de educación especial. ¿Habrá todavía un ayudante de autobús en su ruta de autobús?

Mis estudiantes de secundaria y preparatoria estarán en persona dos días a la semana. ¿Podrán recibir desayuno y almuerzo en la escuela?
Los estudiantes de middle school y high school podrán recoger su desayuno para llevar a su clase de la primera hora los días que estén en persona en la escuela.
